Stockhausen on BBC2 Learning zone

Just saw quite an interesting programme on tv featuring stockhausen amongst others...

Also these dudes from Birmingham University who seem to amuse themselves by making compositions in Pro tools, and then mess about with them in quadraphonic sound in front some very sober intellectual looking types.....

The Learning Zone definatley comes up trumps with the wierd shit.....

Us night owls not knowing when to go to bed eh?
Yeah, stockhausen come out with some interesting words... I suppose stating the obvious though, for us musos...

Those dudes just sitting and listening intently though, maybe I'm missing something, but a lot of the music seemed to be totally the other end of the scale from pop shite, but almost to the point of missing the point.... It's SUPPOSED TO BE FUN! Maybe they were having fun but just expressed it in a different way...

I found a lot of what they were doing quite unlistenable, and the thought crossed my mind of what those people in the theatre would have made of a lot of the experimental music we're into....(Specifically the less dancefloor stuff)

Crazy that people study at university for years to make a racket (a cool thing to do at Uni though, I'm not knocking it), I learned in my bedroom!

Definatly inspired me to run straight upstairs, fire up the red beasty (Modular) and have a blast with logic circuits and random resetting sequences.....
