I fell in love with dune the first time I saw it when I was a kid. I only watched a little bit of the new one and I didn't like it. I have never read the books even though I have always wanted to. I need to get up off my arse and stop reading the usual heavy dramatic drivel I read and get into some good ol scifi. my friend is lending me the sci fi book spares if anyone out there has heard of it. just started it really but it looks like it could be interesting.

I think it would be interesting for jeff mills to do a soundtrack to dune,
since the one he did for metropolis I thought was quite good.

I don't know....have been reading all 6 dune books last year and must say, they started to bore me very soon. The most interesting one was the second, because Paul Muad'dib knew from the beginning his power had to end at the end. That made him a melancholic and almost tragic character.

ha ha.... Dune has to be one of the most totally fucked up the arse by hollywood of all time...

There are so many versions of that film, and its such a shame because it has just turned into a total merry go round between Lynch and the studios...

There's even version where Lynch refused to be credited so its Directed by Alan Smythee (the name hollywood uses for Directors and Producers who refuse to have their name on the film).

Its such a shame because you can tell from the sets and the grand cast that it could and would have been a trully epic production. Imagine War & Peace or American Civil War in space. Its one of my biggest dissappointments in science fiction, and you just know that its never going to get shown how it should - and they have the bloody film to make it...

Any way I'll stop whinging now, haven't seen this new version. I hope its even halfway decent I'll be happy...

As to the rest of Frank Herberts stuff, absolute rubbish. IMHO Herbert just proves the theory that everyone has at least one book in them - cos his was Dune, the rest is nonsense...

this is funny. yesterday I saw an issue of maxim magazine (a mag in the us that centers around sex, sports, and gadgets for guys) and they listed the 50 worst movies ever made. they listed dune as being number 20. seems like some bull shit in my opinion.
