Boss RC20 Question
Hello Audioworld People,
Quick question for anyone with hands on experience of a RC20 (Decadnids... I know you have) Can you control the volume of each of the 10 channels/loops independently? I've read the manual, but it doesn't seem to say whether the volume affects everything, or just the currently selected loop. Also, I am planning on buying one of these for my drone music. Does anyone think i'd be better off with anything else - the boomerang looks good, but you only get 2 loops and not much sampling time...i''ve been all through the products on Loopers Delight: http://www.loopers-delight.com/tools/tools.html ...but the RC 20 looks like the best to me for my needs (making sounds using guitar/mic, durable/small for gigging, ability to make lots of loops, including pre-stored.) |

a friend of mine used one for a set when his ibook with ableton live went down.. it was one of the best sets he'd done. again though, ive now idea what that boss thing can do.. |

yeah - I love the look of the Line 6 delay, but I will already be using a Line 6 amp modeller thingy which has an infinite delay in it already - it looks to me like the delay unit can only do 1 loop at a time (on top of the FX?..)

cut out - the boss thing allows you to have loops stored and then switch between them. -you cant have all the loops playing at once.
it is great for building up textural stuff - more in the sense of adding new layers and over dubbing. i like the boss rc20 - it's not what some people require but i think its great. |

That's a bit of a back to the drawing board for me then!... i knew it sounded too good to be true! Thanks dude. |

the line 6 has alot more delays than the pod (if thats what u have..)
theres tape delay ones.. all sorts... it also has a 14 or so second loop sampler, with which u can overdub a whole bunch of tracks with... you can then really crudely "edit" them by pitching down and reversing and stuff. i dont think u can hold any loops int the memory tho.. |

yeah - I have the POD.
I like the sound of the L6 delay actually (and cos its relativly cheap)... what i was really looking for was one unit where I could capture multiple loops (not even that long rilly) and then mix' em etc. ... . but it looks like I'm just gonna have to take loads of bits of kit with me and my mixing desk and do it that way... |

yeah.. i had the same requirements.. ended up buying stuff that really wasnt what i wanted.. some boss sp..something or other..
itwas good for jamming loop/samples.. and although it professed to being able to sample on the fly, it wasnt really up to it.. now im using audiomulch and Ableton live.. |

I don't know what your budget is, but the ultimate looping tool is still the Oberheim/Gibson Echoplex. It's not cheap, but you can still find them used for not too much. They're a looper's secret weapon. Seriously, search for a bit and see for yourself.

yeah I got roland sp 808 a few years ago... rubbish. Really fucking noisy and unreliable. All ran off zip disk on the fly and would often drop out. |

Thanks Pong - I have looked at the Echoplex, but like you said, it's not cheap... and unfortunately I am - but in the long run this is exactly what I want, so i'll have to start saving my pennies up i guess. |
