what about this category:
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (For a Rap/Sung collaborative performance by artists who do not normally perform together. Singles or Tracks only.) what the hell..... the grammys are so terrible, I remember when they put coldplay in "alternative". ick. |

they just started them a few years ago. if my memory serves me the first winner of a grammy for a dance record was the baha men for 'who let the dogs out'. they beat out moby which I thought was hillarious.

who let the dogs out? - ha-ha! Anslem Douglas sang the original (and more crude) version of that song, found it quite funny that it was used to promote the rugrats movie... had no idea that it won a grammy for dance though...

'toxic' is second for me, 'slow' is #1. the thing about the britney track is anyone could've sung it. she has all the money to buy up the good tracks. but i actually think it's an unusual song for the top 40. and neither is it predictablly from the big people like timbaland or neptunes
alternative in america is anything but, nowadays. alternative since the late 90s is stuff like blues traveller, alanis morissette, etc. the radio industry has a term for this stuff, AAA for adult alternative album. on the other side of the coin, there's the noisier alternative for the kids, like korn, linkin park, limp bisqit, evanescence. what would've been alternative like in the early 90's with nirvana or pixies is probably just called indie. stuff like white stripes, the strokes, the hives. but you would not hear a category called "indie" in the grammy's because the big record companies would have a cow. yeah, i think the term 'alternative' now is completely impotent. it just seems to mean bland music with guitars in. preferably shot through with a beige strand of dawson's creek-sy angst

as progresive is to electronic music. |
