yeah, not looking forward to Xmas this year either, i always have a much nicer time visiting my family when it's not a holiday.

they used to put up Xmas decorations after thanksgiving here (which is in about 2 weeks) and now they where up everywhere a week ago. I swear one day we'll just have them up year round.

I really really like Xmas actually, my family are not stressful on the whole etc, and they put on a killer spread... it's going to be odd this year tho as both grandparents on one side, though both totally compos mentis, are very ill and may very well not make it through another year, so we'll be trying to give them a good time and not be morbid etc.

Kill a tree for Jesus. It's what he would have wanted.

Xmas in my family has got a bit dull and samey. We need some kids to liven it up and make it exciting again. I'll not be providing those though

its brilliant not having any kids around at christmas at the moment- can wake up late- enjoy a leisurely morning-have a big meal in the evening and not get that terrible sugar/adrenalin comedown in the afternoon. maybe in a coupl eof years i'll change my mind.
but yeah this thread does point to the fact that how much you enjoy xmas depends on your family situation. Xmas is about 200 times more fun than birthdays though....

i really like christmas, it's good to be with familly and nearest relatives for a few days. it brings me down from this whole madness i'm living in. but, yeah i agree with thomas, it always depends on your families situation. i think some people are very lonely on x-mas.

I hate christmas, it's an awful time of the year where everything says you haev to spend itme with your family and be happy, when the truth is my family piss me off as we're completely different people and I can't be myself around them which makes me really unhappy when I have the same relatives every fucking year asking me if "I've got a girlfriend" which I wish they would just shut the fuck up, it's none of their buisness.

Over time christmas is corrupting me. I make every effort at the social gatherings to make my own personality felt, I eat as fast as possible and fuck off spending as little time with family as possible, I talk bullshit voicing radical opinions or just playing devils advocate to fuck people off and try and get the point across that I hate the whole fucking christmas peroid.

The best christmas I ever had was two years ago where after having a fight over the phone with my dad where he threatened to put me in hospital on my birthday I stayed in Edinburgh for xmas and didn't come home and spent it with one of my flatmates who was stuck there after his parents went on holiday without him. That was fun, we did stuff we liked, cooked a meal for ourselves, watched films and had some drinks.

This year I'm still trying to think up ways to get out of the whole shebang. Luckily my mates are putting on a night on boxing day which will get me out the house that day though I'll still have to put up with the terror of christmas day at my sisters which I fucking loathe with a passion. Yes lets put me in an environment with people I don't have anything in common with or get on with then make abosloutely sure I can't do anything which I find entertaining leading me to extreme amounts of raging fucking boredom that just make me want to kill someone. Then add in small children I don't really deal well with running about and being noisey.

I hate christmas.

Xmas trees are pines because that's where Amanita Muscaria grows. The presents under the tree, back in pagan times were mushies. The whole concept of the church and the intermediary priests being required to commune with the Divine was THE thing Christ was trying to rebel against when he smashed up all the stuff at the temple. The "presents" are a direct line to expanding consciousness and talking to "God" personally. Those symbols and messages are lost on a godless and greedy people that have strayed into the clutches of powerhungry clergies that have lied and held sway over masses by twisting The Word for ages. The message is still there and clear. I'm not a Christian myself, but I'm not blind to the words of different faiths either, whether the people that choose practice their teachings abide by them, or even see them in the same way I do.

Frankly, I think communion with something bigger than myself as an individual, and a lowly human is something worthy of celebration and practice. Some of the other things like getting together with family and seeing that those I care about take the time to convene and associate with one another to wish each other well and help one another, sometimes with material items in the form of gifts, is nice.

It feels good to help one another and to make others feel good, and that part of Xmas, I really do like. That part, I think kinda transcends the dogma and shit that belief systems try to shove down others' throats with the messages that accompany the times, but setting those aside, seeing them for what they are, and maintaining my own views on things spiritual, while helping others, and feeling their love and support of me...well that's alright, innit?

I feel a bit sad for those who don't have it as well with their families, and I hope that you can sort it out, but if you can't, then why trouble yourselves? I mean if it's communication issues, and others trying to project their values on you, then maybe it IS best for you to spare yourself that turmoil, until you can establish better communication, trust and acceptance of and with one another.

No point in doing hurtful things, especially to one's family. Even if you disagree, they are still your blood, and that tie is thicker than any belief system or oath or anything else. It's biological, and though others may have different ideas of how one should be, you are yourself, they are themselves, and sooner or later, all parties must accept it as they are, as family. It's hard to swallow, especially for parents, because they want to see themselves expressed by you how they want, and sometimes is takes seeing that clearly to undo it. Anyhow...hope you lot have enjoyable holidays however you choose to do it.
