Gameboys for Iraq

My stoned Welsh mate Jim came up with an idea a while back - the best possible way to pacify the Iraqi people is to ship in millions of pairs of flash Nikes, container loads of Gameboys and batteries for them, tankers full of Pepsi spiked with Prozac.

I just remembered this, and you know what, it might just work. Do you reckon people would take a public campaign to get the corporates to donate their product? In the end it's got to be in their interest, as if/when the country stabilises and the economy is stimulated, people will want to buy more of their stuff. And how much more accepting of foreign troops would people be if they knew they were going to give them really expensive presents, while the gangsters who are jostling for power in the more lawless zones are only going to give them bullets and beatings? GIVE EM TOYS, I say.

I'm sure the Iraqi children will have plenty of time to see Nike trainers up close when they end up spending 18 hours a day stitching them. All im good time.

Hahaha that reminds me of something Jeremy Hardy said on Radio 4: "My daughter asked me for some £90 Nikes the other day. I said 'You're eight years old - MAKE SOME'"

was thinking of exactly the same quote, knid

I saw Jeremy Hardy live a couple of years ago. He was ace. I never realised what an anti-monarchist/anarchist he really was.

Neither did the primarily over-50 audience. You could feel the hostility when he started banging on about how shit the monarchy was. It was ace.

He talked about that when I saw him. If I recall, I think he got shot, or possibly hit by shrapnel. He was very scared, but glad he did it.
