which mac?

okay so i'm planning on getting a new mac, but i'm torn as to whether get a new imac or a powerbook. i'd really like the portability of a powerbook, but the imacs are g5's now and i can get a more powerful computer for less money. so i guess what i'm weighing out is portability vs. power. i'll be using the computer mainly for audio but also for some design as well. the new imacs seem like they could be portable, but not without some effort and probably a custom case, whereas the powerbook could just slide right into my backpack. help me figure this out guys!

u r not the only one with this damn decision-problem.
i´m thinking about buying a mac too, and i can´t decide which is the best solution for me(powerbook? imac?).
i think we have to figure it out for ourselves.

Think In Audio Hardware Terms...

iMac, iBook - Nice prices, USB support, Not PCMCIA or PCI

Powerbook, PowerMAc - Expensive, but support both PCMCIA and PCI interfaces.

Advantages of Both PCI - PCMCIA interfaces (as long as I know) give less problems with I/O audio hardware.

iBooks work fine with Firewire audio interfaces. I'm going through the dilemma myself, as we speak as well. I may opt for a 1.3ghz g4 powerbook. Not sure yet, but I can one with an 80gb drive, and half a gb of ram for under $1000. I may be able to get a g5 iBook for even less if I pull the right strings, but...I like PCMCIA as well. I dunno. Firewire audio and HD, and USB MIDI...but the upgradeability. It's a tough call. Needs more research and advice from wizards.

fuck ibooks! get a PB imacs are cool but hook up a monitor and your well. the new g5's arnt that deifferent unless your running huge huge fucking apps. tony my buddy in crime has the dual 2.0 g5 and its not that fast, i mean its fast but not where i can really see it. i mean i can open 50 cubase sesions and 20 movies and burn a dvd and render down a affter effects movie all at the same time. but general reposnse time is the same as my fucking 4 yr old pc.

the PB is nice and the ibook idea is stupid cus i got one. and i miss a couple things resolution, mic input, battery life, coolness

you can hack most of the ibook models so that they work with external displays just like powerbooks.
