Breaking Bad

Anybody watching that?
Season 1 was great.
But season 2 now.. wow, just wow. this is pure genius.

for anybody not knowing about it: it's esentially about a chemistry-teacher who after finding out that he's terminally ill decides to cook and sell some crystal meth to leave his family some money after he'll be gone.
and if you think that already sounds crazy you don't know half of it. just brilliant.

I liked it, although maybe a bit too similar to weeds in plot...

you think? the premise is similar but breaking bad goes in quite a different direction then weeds. it's also way darker.

It's great, think I enjoyed the first series best before it started developing too much, felt a bit more rough and ready. A couple of nice bits in the second one though, stolen ATM crack house acid.

...the severed head tortoise taxi was pretty impressive.

I watched s1 and thought it got pretty dull which was really dissapointing as I think it's a very brave and inventive piece of television and in places pretty entertaining.

But the subject matter in terms of his cancer makes it quite uncomfortable watching for me, I wouldn't wish it any different but for me It's really just not what I want to see, so I probably subconsiensly got put off by that and it's been dragging it all down for me.

I tried Series 1, thought it was a bit cartoonish - certainly not the "as good as the Sopranos" blockbuster a lot of people claimed - and drifted off after 4 or 5 episodes... Still I did enjoy it, will try again some time.

CARNT' WATE FOR TONITE AAAARGH

Love this show, and am massively looking forward to watching the new episode tonight.
It's totally up there with Sops, The Wire and Treme in terms of the writing and acting (and the cinematography). Different to all the above though.
Some of my fave aspects are: WW's Wallabies, "bitch", Marie in purple, HANK, Skinny P, the name 'Skylar', Saul's Bluetooth, etc etc
Good TV.

i started watching it about a month ago. already halfway through season 3. definitely try again. from season 2 it starts to evolve into something a lot darker and more subtle. i think it's better than the sopranos

I know! Had to wait for it to be uploaded so I could do the illegal d/l.
Intrigued to see where the start bit fits in. Walt seemed kinda... gone.

Yeah exactly, it's as if the Sopranos was called "WALNUTS!"

Everyone says it gets better though.

The last season of Breaking Bad was totally thrilling, really built well towards its climax.
It is cartoony though - sometimes I wish they'd talk more believably, and that the tone was less 'action-suspense', music and all. But I guess that's what makes it effective as a TV show. I'm still watching, anyway.

The Sopranos comparison is half-arsed.

I understand the cartoonish thing. To me though, it's like a Coen brothers TV series.

It's got its own style, remember the Mexican ballad of Heisenberg bit, and the eyeball falling from the sky? Highly stylized, and original.
Agree, we don't need to be comparing everything as better or worse than The Sopranos but its the benchmark for rigorous plot/ acting/ design/ cinematography.
Imagine doing this with books. They're all different. Shame there aren't more excellent tv dramas but they're expensive as fuck.

The new series has had the best start yet. It started as a good show and it's been getting better with every season. I like the way the wife has started to become tainted too Who knows, maybe the son or Hank will turn out to be the evilest in the end.

Not many people have seen it, but Brotherhood was a very good show that kept the quality high until the end. Not many TV series manage that, Deadwood being one of the only other series I can think of.

The Wire was the soooo cool. At least for me. All five seasons were just great.

This scene!

I was always glad Deadwood ended on a high tbh. Most shows run out of ideas before being put out of their misery.

Here's the best of the best character in Deadwood, E.B. Farnum, sleaziest man in the west
