Skepticism

Really good episode of In Our Time this week.

Skepticism has become, ironically, a religion recently - so it's really good to have a few centuries' worth of angles on it.

I like this. Science as unbridled enthusiasm, not sneery "our method renders your method obsolete" snippety snipping.

Which snipping u on about? Has there been an LHC smackdown or something?

Recommend Kuhn's Structure of Scientific Revolutions to anyone interested in the scientific method who hasn't read it. It's really dense and very thought-provoking. Have to keep stopping and staring into space and going "Hmmmmm". I'm only halfway thru tho cos mine got really wet camping the other week and is drying out under some weights

No I mean the pro-science, Dawkinsist, secularist "all traditions are shit because science sees the truth and nothing else does" snipping from a position of comfortable privilege that your man talks about in the article you linked.

I remember reading a really good book about the history of Popper vs Kuhne, which laid out the changing philosophical basis of scientific method really well. Will try to remember what it was. It was probably called "Popper Vs Kuhne".
