Eventide Space
Anyone heard one of these boxes?
It it just plush for plush's sake? Most video demos I've seen are with guitar; and no one really shows if it's possible to go deep into the algorithms. Richard Devine did a vid, but it's not soooo convincing: Eventide Space - Sneak Peak from Richard Devine on Vimeo. Sneak peak of the new Eventide "Space" Reverb stompbox. Running a Roland TR-808 and TB-303 through some of spatial effects including basic reverbs, delays and unique combination effects. |

Crazy price here -- 500 euros! I'm tempted to try it out for a month (Thomann). But I'm also scared that I won't be able to let it go!
Weird to say, since I've always wanted an Eventide, but I'm not sure about the sound --- it's almost too good; can be really nicely dark but maybe not warm. e.g. The spring algorithms don't seem like they could be trashy or boingy enough. It would probably be a great unit for sound designers who need really full-sounding, sophisticated reverbs. But I can't imagine making one of those reverbs fit into a track, without eq'ing out and compressing all the Eventide fullness and dynamic range. I still have to hear it with my own ears, in my own studio. And maybe it's inspiring to use. But I reckon the Strymon boxes (timeline, bluesky) look more appealing in that price range, especially if you want to sometimes just plug a guitar or synth into them. Gear lust is pathetic. |
