note to promoters / audience[/b]

This weekend's experience playing at a venue in the countryside near Salzburg where, within 10 minutes, the majority of the audience watching my performance seemed disillusioned and indifferent ( and indeed cleared out to the 'house' floor ) has left me with an understanding that I cannot perform any longer at gigs which are not aware of what I am trying to acheive as a musician and artist. That is not just about cities or countryside, it is about people, an open state of mind , a curiosity for the interactive musical experience to be had from improvised performance. It is also highlighting the need for correct information and preperation by the promoter in the build up to the show, to inform the audience of what not to expect.

It is exhausting to find myself in such situations after 16 years on the road, and neither is it good for the people who attend, especially when they are not prepared to listen to me 'in concert' or to care for my hard work and experience, or to interact with my performance in an alternative way to a typical club DJ ( which I am not ).

Here is a good set of documentaries by Derek Bailey about improvisation in music.

Chewing over the matter of the post above I decided to put in some looped sample material and pre design presets of settings. I'm still able to tweak, deconstruct and rebuild the music but it sounds more clear now for audience and performer alike. Also integrated touchOSC on the iPhone to be able to zap and tweak away from the computer.

First showcase of this version, called Life of the Lathe, tonight at wmf in Berlin
