good to see some good honest techno.. not 'minimal' not 'wonky' not 'schranz' Just good ole fashioned techno tunes that made us whoop in the parties.. it's a genre that sadly is forgotten now, with everything being so niche..

Any chance you can redo it without tracks 38 and 41 then it could happily live on my ipod heheh

Haha, I was waiting for the Alfa controversy regarding this mix.. I didn't play Ibi's stuff for a fair few years after all the shit things that happened.. But I play his stuff now, for the same reason that I play certain other producers' records who I don't actually like personally - because I really like the music. I think throughout history, there has been some really great music made by people who happened to be complete arses.. but I do understand why it might grate on you Jerome given past events

Oh, and of course, thanks for the props Jerome, it means a lot coming from you, as really, you are the Jedi master

@ Ewann, the site is old, it's just the regular mix idea which is new...

I doubt very much he's going to re-appear on the scene, would it not be better though to hope that he'd actually looked back at what he had done and maybe learned from it rather than becoming another statistic? I wouldn't wish heroin addiction on anyone, especially considering the fact that it affects not just the user but also who-ever is unfortunate enough to be nearby.. But I do understand that you're gonna be pissed about what happened in the past, but please, can we concentrate on the music here.. Just because someone behaved like a cunt doesn't mean that all of their music suddenly becomes shit....

Website is down at the moment but the mix can still be accessed via soundcloud....

oops, sorry for bringing that into this thread.. I guess it's just that every month that he keeps quiet and doesn't come out and apologise or make amends, is another month where he's effectively saying he doesn't give a shit about what he did to me.. or to others.. I can live with it but when i see his name it just brings it all back and makes me angry all over again..

sorry

Ok, here's my justifications to myself for playing his stuff once more: There are other producers who I think are on a scale ranging from irritating through to total cunt on a personal level, who's music I still play out nonetheless.. I remember how pissed off I felt when I managed to rub a certain DC up the wrong way who then went around saying that he'd never play my records again, and that he'd "make sure my music career was over", thinking that surely the music music should be the most important thing.. And I should add, that never stopped me playing his records out, that is, so long as I thought they were good.

Signals from Southwark #02: Mark Hawkins Live @ Tuskulum, Aue, Germany 31.10.09

Here is the first liveset I did with the new Ableton/APC 40 Combo. I was recorded at a Tuskulum party in Aue, in south-east Germany a few weekends ago. It's still a work in progress really, and has made me debate whether I wish to do ableton only live acts or not, as I will always prefer hardware from an audio perspective.. anyway, download and enjoy:

Re. the DC thing- you won't have had any moral scruples bout it for the last ten years or so then. What was the last good thing he released ?
On the dl now- sure it'll be a cracker MH !

Mark, you want to be careful upsetting Dick Cheney, he's a nasty piece of work.

This week we have the first Guest mix on Signals from Southwark.
It’s a mix of various releases from Vadz’s netlabel “Russian Techno”, mixed by Label boss Vadz, straight out of Taganrog, in southern Russia.

Mixed opinions, but thinking it was really a way of them selling Max for live as if you already shelled out for it, you need to get Max for Live to make the most out of it, as if you only use the default settings and as a launch controller, I mean, I just don't see the point really, if you use any more than 8 tracks at once it's very easy to get lost in a live set... Suffice to say I'm seriously thinking of getting Max for Live, with which I could turn it into some kind of crazy virtual groovebox thing ala Notron, which really is where i should be heading anyway...
