All DJs Are Glorified Button Pushers

Don't believe me? Ask Deadmau5:

Haha such a cunt.

He is a software engineer / creator of spectacles. He might as well be building rides in Disneyland.

I'm not a luddite, I love a high-tech display, but my god... I went to Mala & Vivek's 'System' night on Saturday: a soundsystem they built themselves, all analogue signal from stylus to speaker cone, playing dubplates, quite often not even mixing, just letting it play out... no light show, not even a spotlight or strobe or glitter ball, no stage or DJ booth, just decks on a table... and it was really very good. The end.

I hate the term EDM - when did that start being used? Seems to be everywhere now. fucking EDM - sounds like a cheese.

Disney rides yep. def.

don't suppose anyone else saw David Guerra (or something) on Graham Norton a coupla months ago or sommat... i actually watched about half of his track with an incredulous look on my face.

oooh.. i found it. seems he's famous enough that even getting his name wrong won't stop him.

Is that ok now??? Can people do that?

I like his massive box. And at least he seems to be enjoying himself.. which is more than you can say for trollmaus. mind you, i only ever see trollmaus when someone posts a link to him getting something tragically wrong about computers/synths/etc. maybe his live performances are full of joy and humour. it seems unlikely

The poor guy must be confused I think his beef is with producers who claim to be playing “live” when all they’re doing is DJ-ing their own records. He’s either never witnessed a good DJ doing their thing or perhaps lost sight of what it is that DJs actually do.

This is excellent. The logical extension of where we've got to in the dj-as-performer scenario. People mimed badly on TOTP all the time, so to see DG grabbing his headphones mid-song (in order to emergency beatmatch another element into the song) is perfect. Plus, the pan pots on his mixer are SO HOT!! Ow!
And I've played DJ Hero. It's all part of the thing in which you get maximum public acclaim for minimum effort. Fine.
I didn't see anything wrong with Deadmou5's what he was saying.

was it Moby who just sat motionless infront of an iMac on Top of the Pops? Think it was for Go, or something.

It would probably be a lot more expedient to the decline of deadmau5 career, which I have to assume everyone on this thread is looking forward to, if we all just ignored this malarkey and went about our daily lives.

I heard that, if you look at your reflection in your PowerBook (glossy screen only) and say his name three times, he possesses your "Designed for Ableton" DJ controller.

I'm building a massive purple bellend hat covered in flashing lights for my stage debut, but I need someone to operate the wallpaper paste pump for me.

Though what's with the Palestinian business?
Is Gerald an anti-Semite or is Deadmau5 a Zionist?

Gerald responded on the comments bit of the Mixmag reporting of it...

"The only button you and people like you are interested in pushing is a nuke for the Palestinians."

That was stupid of me to say and obviously out of out of context especially as I know racist generalisation 1st hand I mean you can see me coming a mile of. anyway I'm sorry for For Causing disharmony. it was only about music. don't know where the nuke shit came from may be to many coffees.

I think he genuinely was straight-edge at the time... but of course straight-edgers are usually even more mental than the drug munchers.
