Monomachine
Anyone played with one of these? I'm interested in one however i've only ever played with a Machinedrum.
any good? does the sequencer get in the way or open the box up? would i be better off thinking about a machinedrum? had an old roland groovebox and had a blast with it, think maybe getting a little more time away from a computer might be nice. |

my friend albert uses it a lot most of these tracks were made with it. i think its pretty fucking awesome. if i sold my machinedrum for something it'd be that. but i don't know... i really like the machine drum for what it is. I guess the way I'd think about it is do you want a percussive synthesizer (machine drum) or a synthesizer that can do some percussive sounds (monomachine) |

I really like it, the sequencer is good, esp if you use the param locks like the md also has.
I thought I'd also be plugging in a keyboard to play it but infact have almost exclusively used the seq |

If Elektron did a step sequencer solely for sequencing external gear I'd be bang into it... seems unlikely now though...
That GenoQs Nemo is pretty saucy. |

i don't know about the mono, but the machinedrum can send data out on 16 midi channels!

yeah I love the machinedrum sequencer, it's great... I'm just into sampled based stuff more... I'd love for that Linn/DSI Boom Chik thing to be an MPC/Machinedrum killer...

IMO, the monomachine is a lovely sounding thing, but very quickly you become aware of the limits of its sonic palette. Yes, it can do really 'wacky things', but they actually sound quite predictable even after a few days with the machine.
I loved the FM machines, and the digi-saw, but the rest of them were just not versatile enough. Sequencer was ace though - very creative, and I wish I'd tried sequencing ext gear before I sold it. But, yeah, for the money you pay, you can maybe find a dedicated creative sequencer to seq ext gear (like the signal arts MAPS or something). All down to taste though, and you might love the sound so much that you don't even notice its sonic limitations, or don't recognise them as limitations. |
