Innovative new music

Heard any ?

Im listening to DHG - Supervillain Outcast a lot. Which despite sounding like its an MF Doom album is a really interesting mix of metal / electronics / dark ambience.

definitely worth checking out if you are after something with a new sound.

I'm getting into older and older music. I'm going to end up as one of those freaks who won't listen to anything unless it's performed using authentic medieval crumhorns.

I never heard any. Is it good? I take it from Loz's thing that it's the stuff Sting's been doing... not heard that either.

I tried playing a bit of O'Carolan stuff arranged for guitar.. but not sure i was good enuff. I'm a bit better now so should try again. I'm ashamed to show my face in the library though due to the breathtaking lateness of my last returns (8 months overdue).

I've only got as far as early 20th century really. Stuck in blues/rag. I think electrifying it all was a big mistake. I just don't get on with rock n roll.. even tho I can appreciate the good stuff.

But from the country blues stuff I've started getting into older folk music.. english, scottish, irish mainly.. via people like Renbourn, Jansch, Davey Graham etc.

One of the tunes I'm learning on the guitar at the mo is a Northumbrian song called "Elsie Marley"

Also.. I've always been a sucker for Barbershop Quartets... the close harmony gives me the horn. But I've recently realised that Tallis and Byrd did it even better.

I can't recommend anything really... i don't know it all well enough yet.. just well enough to realise that i can't be arsed to follow all the new music. I'll just wait for other people to filter it for me. The old stuff's already been filtered for a few hundred years.. everything left is pure gold

I'm liking the new Throbbing Gristle album 'The Endless Not'.. their first new release in twenty years.. it's very subtle, well crafted and well.. dark.. unsurprisingly.

i've notice that lately i like to listen music that has to do with south, southeast europian folk music, that hasn't electronic sounds. i feel like i'm tired from electronic sounds. that's why i like to listen more metal music :-)

i like this band and similar to them. they sound great live. two years ago me and mdk went on a concert in an old inn (we call it an) and it was really great. maybe we should go on more concerts this summer since Lili is not that little :-)

I'd love to but i'm going on holiday that day.... I presume they'll show the short Derek Jarman films with Coil soundtracks too, the one called 'bankside' has an amazing bit of music on it but it's never been released.

I like the Skull Disco records more and more. Definitely feels like they are doing something genuinely different.

and for ancient instruments, the new Colleen album (les ondes silencieuses) is very very pretty and features the Viola De Gamba.

I like Panda Bear's Person Pitch for popiness and oddness combined.

Otherwise, the amazing Nico and Arthur Russell re-issues have kept me occupied the past few months.

the new blonde redhead album is really nice
battles, bright eyes, and the new black rebel motorcycle club are very worthy as well.

i like it

i think its a grower

As for Skull Disco, try the Shackleton side of Soundboys ashes get chopped up and snorted. majestic visions is great too. But I wouldn't listen to 'em on through a clip on boomkat, try to get mp3's at least and I think they need to be loud on decent speakers.

So you spotted the electro-skweee connection then?

For anyone else who doesn't know, Mesak is half of Mr Velcro Fastener (Finnish electro) and one of the other skweee chaps is Randy Barracuda from Imatran Voima (also Finnish electro).

Yes, it's slow. Have a listen.

awhile ago, but I just didn't know how w/who..etc..he was going
to get it put out...I've been w/out a computer for the last few months
and now I have one, I don't have sound...when I do I'll be download a shit load of music...and this is definitely on my list...

i've heard of all of those names but never of skweee. sounds interesting :-)

i also heard something from Burbuja couple weeks ago. i like it but i'm not sure how much i like it. i like the sounds but i'm not fond of the female singing.
