emef

i`ve never been to a karaoke, always wanted to but its not happened for me yet.

what would be your first choice song to sing at a karaoke night?

mine would be
shania twain - man! i feel like a woman.

second choice would be
pixies - broken face

i reckon they`d have the shania one though :)

"Ne me quitte pas" by Jaques Brel and some scott walker whilst weeping inconsolably into a bucket of gin.

karaoke doesn't bring out the best in me.

Oh Darling by the Beatles, probably - for some reason it's pitched exactly right for me to FUCKING BELT IT OUT and still remain in tune, emotionally drenching all before me with raw quivering need. So my neighbours say whenever I listen to it at home, anyway.

roy orbison - in dreams, my tune. can do the high bit and everything.

done 'get back' by the beatles at the garage of all places, was absolutely steaming and kind of changed it into a rap about east kilbride and how getting back there is very difficult at certain times. some guy came up to me wanting to take over, said i was embaressing, but i told him to get tae feck and continued. good fun it was.

cut out
23rd August 2004, 17:25
only ever done it once at a works do - did should i stay or should i go, which is good cos you don't have to sing.

my choice in future would be 'different drum', the version by the lemonheads, cos when i sing along with that, to my ears i sound bloody great

call me a nerd, but it always pissed me off in that song that the grammar of the lyrics is incorrect

"...and the bitch... is working his shift"

karaoke wise, there's some old favorites I've been singing for years anyway

80ies rock:
Alice Cooper - Feed My Frankenstein
Mötley Crüe - Dr. Feelgood
Aerosmith - Love in the Elevator

80ies/90ies crap rap
MC Hammer - 2 Legit 2 Quit
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby

That'd be pretty interesting to hear... :)

the Shoop-Shoop Song (it's in his kiss) by Cher & Take Me Home - the version that Sophie Ellis-Bexter did get my vote...

Me and by mate Susie did a truly awful version of Don't You Want Me Baby not so long ago...

The night i met my girlfriend, her and her mate dragged me to this weird japanese karaoke place in sao paulo... it was quite seedy, basically loads of small rooms with black leather sofas, mirrored walls and a big tv screen, a couple of microphones and a 'menu' with all the songs listed.. You order drinks by telephone and it's quite a private thing...karaoke for the pure joy of karaoke if you like.. It was extremely bizzarre and the experience will stay with me until my grave. After they'd murdered a few popular classics , i'd had a few more beers and was feeling unbearably like a wet english killjoy ,i eventually plucked up the courage and did some silly 50's song the name of which escapes me...

@emef - i've SEEN you karaoke... or at least lip sync.... Cheerleaders live !!

some past triumphs:

transvision vamp - i want your love
irene cara - theme from fame
lionel ritchie - all night long (all night)
roy orbison - only the lonely
abba - dancing queen

i think irene is the way forward for karaoke, i want

Flashdance (what a feeling)

id also do

rolling stones - the girl with the faraway eyes

if this thread spurs on a karaoke craze, can any UK songstrels seach their karaoke sheets for super_collider tracks ? it wont be long and darn cold way o lovin are both on PRS as UK karaoke and sometimes we get 0.01 p for them having been used.

i did the clash before when i was young and was rubbish
if i was roped into doing it again it would be an 80s classic
no doubt they always draw the biggest singalong from the crowd
maybe the human league or the stranglers or something

As long as no one here chooses "I Will Always Love Yoo-ooo-oooooooo-ooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ooooooooooooooooooooo" we should be okay. Why do the worst/drunkest karaoke singers always pick the most challenging tunes?

kevin blechdom does a great version of that ...she does the 'AND IIIIIIIII....' about 500 times more than you are supposed to. you go through every emotion from loving her to wanting to kill her to back to loving her loads.

and if my voice is good and my alcohol level sufficient, i'd try

I've said this before, although maybe not here, I could never be drunk enough to do kareoki, or however it's spelt. I'd go from being sober and unable, to mildly drunk, to very drunk, to exceptionally drunk and unable to do kareoki, to being dieing of alcohol poisoning, and thus unable to do it.
