I like their White 2 album. But when I saw them at ATP last year I thought they were crap.

Khanate are fucking rubbish.

I don't know any of these bands, but I know they're somehow related to The Melvins, and I really like The Melvins.

I just recently got exposed to SunnO))) at a friend's place and was instantly enthusiastic about it. I got myself a copy of "Flight of the Behemoth", which is an older release, and I think it's great. Doom metal so doomy and slow it went close to the absolute abstraction of metal. Compared to that the Melvins sound almost consumer friendly.

I like SunnO))) and Earth, nice drone sludge. Only heard a bit of the Thrones but its all good... I really like that long track by Sleep called 'Dopesmoker' too. Heres a good review by Droolian Cope -

He seems to know his stuff on the sunnO))) tip.. in fact he guested on their last album.

Khanate are crap (IMO).

Sleep have an album called "Jerusalem" with just one 52-minute track on it. So this beats it all I guess, although they're not quite as heavy as SunnO))). They recorded it with the money of a major label, of which they bought new equipment and shitloads of weed. Of course the label refused to release it, so that it was stored for years until Rise Above - the label of one of the Cathedral guys - finally released it.
