every so often i get the feeling that i need some change in my life and when i can afford to, i hit the road and travel around a region of the world that's known to some as America.
if you are familiar with my posts you might know that i get a great deal of enjoyment from digging for records and trying to find the best buys for little dough. on this most recent venture i stopped by a shop in San Francisco called Ameoba and, to my delight, saw some rare gems.
-sealed copy of senor vogel's 'all music has come to an end'
(never see that anywhere and never for $11)
-Ian O'Brien Ferox's for about $3.00 a piece.
-Lustmord 'Heresy' (the scariest album i've ever heard)
-used copy of Brian Eno 'Apollo' in perfect condition
-Substance 'Sessions' album from Chain Reaction that, aside from it's dinged tin box, plays well (also used and very cheap)
-sealed Kirk Degiorgio mix 'Check One' that, as far as i knew, was
out of print
-impossible to find Soul Oddity single (early Phoenicia)
yes friends, if its one thing that can be said for the west coast, or for that matter San Francisco, is that there always seems to be an abundance of good used techno that is only in those bins because people are either hurtin' for money (because it costs too fuckin much to live there) or they only want the "new shit."

seems it was good fishing that day!
i just love 'heresy', GODZILLA i can hear you! btw there's a cool lustmord-cd named 'purifying fire', a collection of old rare material that was only released on vinyl before, all remastered.
the other stuff is cool too. 'music has come to an end' was a bit of a proove for me, probably the unvogelst vogel-record so far. but after some hearing sessions i also got into this one, i like the second record most.

as much as most americans don't know about good techno,
that is kind of the reason you can find good stuff.
you just have to the spend the time to look.
I think that if most of you guys are like me you can spend
at least 4 hours in a store. I am the kind of record hunter that
will listen to every record so I can find a lot of good gems.
one of the best places I went to was sattelite records in Atlanta
Georgia. they had the regular bins, but then under those were crates
that were filled with all kinds of old techno records. some real old out
of print stuff that I had been looking for. those days, as rare as they are,
are the best days. I also believe in record buying as being theraputic.
anytime I am down or depressed, I can go shopping for records and it
is such a good release.

7875 - you once asked me if i had any records i wanted you to look out for
well i do, but they're so thoroughly british i wonder if they would turn up in the US...cant harm to ask though
hex enduction hour - the fall - it was reissued on Line records on white vinyl, but i cant find it anywhere...
in fact ANYTHING by the fall on vinyl
the only ones - peel session (strange fruit)
i would obviously reimburse you and thank you with some no future presents in return...
that goes to anyone else who has news about these records!!
thanks

in fact revise that - anything by the fall apart from any dance music "remixes" or collaborations. im thinking particularly of the terrible record they did with coldcut - telelphone thing.
what i hate particularly about that is the fact that he says "i dont want to talk to you gretchen franklin in it" which by coincidence is the name of the recently deceased actress that played ethel in eastenders.
why do i know all this crap?

emma-no problem, i will be on the lookout for those.
need/want any Nirvana singles? i saw a 7" the other day that was a split with Jesus Lizard. i think it was the Ode to Guilt spilt. they wanted $20 for it though. some Nirvana is just so expensive.

I know that I saw nirvana's incesticide on vinyl once. back in the washington dc area there is a great record store called orpheus, and they have all kinds of classic rock, new wave, jazz, experimental, etc. I remember seeing it there once. so it does exist.

errr i saw the fall in maybe ummm 1989...i fink it was the kurious oranj tour, mark e smith, stood on stage and tried to look as absolutely bored as possible, did'nt move and did'nt talk... the gig's finnally was 'Wrong Place, Right Time' where the lyrix -'i can't sing, i can't dance' never rang so true.... they were brilliant!..!

a mate of mine went out with mark e smith for a short time years ago. one night they came out of the sub club, we had gone to meet her as she came out for some reason, i can't remember what, probably some dodginess or other. we arrived too late, but soon enough to see them get in a taxi. then for a laugh we followed their taxi. they didn't know who we were and noticed they were being followed. the taxi driver obviously had been watching too many cop shows and there followed a screeching tires/handbrake turns car chase through park circus. great fun. my mate said it was exciting, her and mr smith were totally cabbaged in that 1990 way and lovin it, we could see their faces mooning at us from the back window.
