What is the functionality like for creating playlists on the iPod?
Can you do the sort of things you can do in iTunes? I.e. based on the mp3 tags/genres/years.. or by the amount of plays a file has had?
From what I can tell the creative players let you do this sort of thing on the fly, can't tell if iPods do or not..

on the fly u can only create a very simple structured "on-the-go-playlist".
u can add songs, albums etc. to this list, but it's not possible to change the order afterwards, remove single elements etc. it's only possible to erase the complete list.
apple's concept is to create all your (intelligent) playlists with itunes, but not on the ipod as this would kill the ipod-typical simplicity.
I didn't like this at first, but you get used to it. i was kind of stunned when i got my ipod as i thought, this would be some kind of itunes to take away but it isn't, it's definately reduced.
some facts about intelligent playlists:
lists which contain songs depending on their ratings (=stars) are refreshed on the ipod as soon as you change the ratings.
but lists which contain songs depending on the time they were played the last time, e.g. during the last two weeks are NOT refreshed as far is i've noticed.
maybe apple adds some more playlists features, but at the moment it's just a gear for playing your selected tracks. i was surprised as well that you cannot delete songs from the library on the ipod or rename them or change their category or anything. that's all up to itunes.

hmm, I might have to check the creative players out, I want to be able to do this intelligent playlist type thing when I'm sitting on the bus.
