Finally get my modular in the next 2 days, any tips to get me started?

read the manual lol

really! the manual is big, but excellent. once you're familar with all the modules, editing is easy and pretty much fun. you might also download some patches from the clavia website. modifying other patches was kinda cool training for me in the beginning....

ps: well, let's be honest: there is actually one thing that suxxx: program changes: it works, but quite slow!

Finally gottit! Out of the box and within a couple of hours had come up with a pretty impressive metallic bass patch.. Cross modulation potential is awesome, and the thing sounds great.. Just starting to play with the sequencers.....
Only problem, didn't come with a proper manual, but it did come with a wizzoo guide, so not too much of a problem....

most definately join the topica mailing list. but make sure you set up a throw-away email address just for it becuase it's a very active list and can flood your mailbox. the people on the list are so helpful.

i'd definately like to hear what your mind does to the modular though. let us know what releases you use it on.

The Wizzo guide is good for starters buy you’ll probably find you’ll still need the full manual. But fear not for the kind people @ Clavia have seen fit to publish it on the web.

ah yes, join the list. i apologize for any topica errors in advance -- they really suck, but they were good when we first moved the list there. i'll move it over to code404.com sometime in the near future if the need arises.

so, let's see...do you have experience with analog synthesis?

if not, read the wizoo book.

if so, read the wizoo book. :) after that, start setting goals for yourself. i'll be happy to go along with you in creating a few if you need. try spending a night creating a patch that changes timbre drastically as you move up the keyboard, or design a few patches that simulate a tr-808 kit to the best of your ability. chances are, you'll be able to find some amazing versions of whatever you want in the patch archive(s), but it's nice to learn the mechanics of the unit for when you need to do it yourself.

i haven't actually used mine in a few months. my output #2 is blown, which an optimist may view as still 3/4 functional...for some reason though it ruins the whole feel of the unit in the way i use it, and until i get off my ass and pay the $250 to get it fixed, i'll be spending more time with my real modular...

anyway, enjoy it, and don't worry...it will take you a long time to fully understand how powerful it is. i still can't create patches like some of the seasoned pros on there.

help , my little microModular is hurt on knob 1 the second from left.
is there a chance i can fasten it again ??? :)

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Did the knob come off or did you break the stem of the encoder?

It's just moves little bit as if a screw is not fastened???

oh, ok. it's quite possible the encoder has come a bit loose. remove the knob and tighten the nut holding it in place. you can do this with a wrench or pliers, but pliers could slip and scratch the unit. good luck!

That's actually pretty uncommon, but it could happen if someone twisted the knob too hard repeatedly over time, loosening up the nut with each turn just a tiny bit.

If you're worried about damaging the unit, remember you're not too far from Sweden. Clavia can fix it for you quite easily.
