flow motion , ege bamaysi, and tago mago are my recommendations, however i'd start with flow motion with it's lovely dubby drummy and well named trax, and it has 'laugh til u cry, live til u die' and 'i want more' which u may know already, although these aren't my faves on the album.

'tago mago' and 'future days' are probably the ones I listen to most.

ege bam yasi is a good one mux..
i dont have all there stuff by no means...but this is the album that really got me into them..

also a mad acid techno dj from scotland..who i heard play at @ rezerection event...he did an excellent remix of Cans - i want more ...so i guess its where he got the name from...where else would you get the name from??!

not sure if this is there best or not?...but i love it..

the track spoon is tops..and soup...

try it :)

"Soon over Babaluma" has its moments, and I think would appeal to techno fans. It's their first without Suzuki, and deserves to be part of the definitive trilogy (so far) of "Tago Mago", "Ege Bam Yasi" and "Future Days". The 10 minute proto-techno epic "Chain Reaction" is magnificent, and there's the delightful "dizzy dizzy".

Can were phenomenal. Like Kraftwerk, having their own studio, InnerSpace, meant that they could do what they wanted. Holger Czukay recently admitted that there was something like 15 miles of studio tape recordings in their vaults.

"ege bamyasi" is a great record ... i love jaki liebzeit's drumming on "vitamin c". also other songs like "spoon" or "sing swan song" used to make my mind up. "soon over babaluma" is also a great record. i like "come sta la luna" and this track with this mad sax solo, can't remember it's name anymore.

is the compilation called 'cannibalism'? it must be at my office. thats a good start

but tago mago, future days and ege bamyasi are all excellent, of course.

im the lucky owner of an almost complete set of can albums and can solo albums due to working with mute! they set me free in their warehouse one momentous day...got all JSBE and blast first too. apparently what all the detroit crew do when they go in there is get all the erasure.

I thought the remixes released in 1997 were shite though, apart from the UNKLE remix of "Vitamin C" and Sonic Youth's "Spoon". Oh, the Carl Craig remix of "Future Days" was nice too.

Damn it's all so great... the thing I love about Can is if you try and describe their music in words to someone it sounds terrible!

noice topic... everything always goes so fast here... goone, i'm glad you got 'monster movie' & 'ege bamyasi'. together with 'future days' it will be my recommendation too. i always found 'limited edition' a great album as well, superbe moments there.

[got all the can lps (original german pressings, liberty recs. etc.) locked up @ friend's parent house somewhere in schwarzwald. eerie. there since 10 years. perfect condition. very eerie, i'm not kiddin', life is strange somming somming...]

i still have a very old compilation tape with my favorite can songs here. just went to the corner store to get some beers and went "oh, shoot, i forgot about 'soundtracks'!!!..." that's a great album, ("...contrary...") Mary... cheggit out please, goone.

cheers kaOz

*did you write "...dig it" because of the 'un-/limited edition thing?

Mute put out a two-disc sampler called Anthology which samples from all ther Can albums (no solo stuff). That is probably the best way to start as it will give you a chance to hear what you likre most and then buy the albums accordingly

You're really missing a lot about Can by listening to compilations in my opinion. I know that's such a typically muso snob thing to say, but it's true :)

(My and I Girlfriend have this 'compilation' argument all the time...)
