hi,

well this is a personal opinion, but yesterday i was listening some new records in a records store and, i figure out that most of them have a shinny & big sticker on it. I mean, most of the records has this Big NAMES on it, to recognize the artist in a second.

Now i remember some years ago i was in the same records store listening a bunch of new records and, most of the times i barely know the artist unless i really like the record and i take a look, looking for a name, a web page, an email or a Tel/Fax number to contact...

I see the market is full of this shitty & functional records and now you have to put a BIG STICKER on it to catch the eye of a future buyer....

Well, i don´t think this is nothing to do with an Underground label politic, i think this is more a wannabe Major marketing politic. So...

FUCK THE STICKER ON THE RECORDS!!!

don´t you think so??

bye,

Yoss

I don't buy vinyl, because I have no decks. However, I hate it when I pay £15 for a cd, and they put a big sticker on it saying what tracks are on the cd, and also some word or two word praise from the music press for the artist.

DJ Shadow's last one was the worst. It comes in a cardboard gatefold jacket, and although I peeled really carefully, it still left the scummy glue all over the front of my otherwise nice case. I was really pissed off.

Why do they put this on records? Can people not read who an artist is without the aid of a sticker? Do people need to know what some of the famous songs are on that record without looking at the back?

Pisses me off muchly.

people are just plain stupid, and thats the truth.

a friend of mine usually peel them of and put them on his wallet, maybe that will help you to be more satisfied with the world :)

generally i love stickers, but this must be said:

Balls. Anything capitalist society has to offer, we can do better. More stickers! Better stickers!

the idea is that there is too much low quality records in the record stores and, they put those big & shinny stickers to catch your eye.

There were a lot of clasic underground labels that have an easy recognize logos, you know.. Harthouse, Tresor, Novamute, Djax Up... but there were also a lot of labels that you first have to listen the music and then if you really like it, ask who is the artist. Well nowadays this really rarely happens.

Electronic Music is going more comercial because every time there´s more people listening electronic music. There´s a growing market out there and they want records!! so... lets put some big & shinny stickers on them, because if not... they will be lost in those "Special Offer" boxes in the record stores.

Put some stickers with your name in big and, you´ll have to buy a tie and change some words in your vocabulary:

music ---> product
people ----> market

maybe some day promotion will become more important than music itself and that day it will be late.

A good promotion work means to let the right records get the right people.

I think most people are just dumb. Really. I had years to get behind that. There are really people who are bearly dumb, or blind or whatever - idiots!

A friend of mine had a homepage and was linked by big portals, search engines etc. He had about 750 hits on the first page each day. There you had to click to go inside the page. Nearly 10% or less of this people who saw the first page went inside the real page.

Ok, you can say, nobody wanted to see the inside after spotting the first page. BUT: when he added a link on the firstpage "click to go inside!" about 20-50% (!!) of the people who saw first page went inside!! 20-50% more by adding a simple-stupid sentence on the "cover"!!

what are people doing when surfing? what are people doing with their mouse? play at their balls? too much stupidity out there. let's do some charts-music!
