View Full Version : what ya'll think of broken beat
i'm listening to kirk delgiorgio's fx mix 01
what ya'll think of broken beat
it seems to be the soundtrack for the fashion crowd here
especially after the bugz in the attic made the island their second home
in interested in seeing how this new sound is playing out in other areas
is it the new sound of house
or an extention of techno
or is it a new genre in itself

Some brilliant, some is dull jazzwank, showing off programming etc.
It is descended from a blend of Acid Jazz (most of the people involve are from the Acid Jazz / Nu Jazz / Gilles Peterson type scene), house, techno and a little bit of garage / 2 step and d&b
The New Sector Movements (aka IG Culture) album is BRILLIANT. I also really like Vikter Duplaix, most of 4 Hero's recent stuff... Phil Asher does some good stuff but can be really bland... can't remember other good artists off top of head. I can't stand that Kirk Degorgio mix, though, he really blands it out, that's just jazz-house loops with no interesting beats at all.
Im really in to broken beat at the momment. I think its really good. The streets, second album. its really good.

i agree about the kirk degiorgio mix, its alright, not great, or different.
i like the broken beat thats closer to techno (as in stereotypical detroit) like archive records, delsins been putting good stuff out (yotoko, deepart, future beat alliance)
in listing groups as deepart in the brokenbeat catagory doesn't it take away from electro, cause that is what broken beat is
in my opinion
