old people with mobile phones who have the trigger happy tv HELLO!!! ringtone
the cat from 2 doors up seen most days in summer fast asleep on the bonnets and roofs of the cars up and down our street in the middle of the day
first time this summer... walked past him on friday cleaning himself on someones car bonnet, casual bugger
the hare krishna couple i saw a few weeks ago walking towards me holding hands wearing full robes in town
i happened to catch their eyes when we were 20 feet apart
and they both gave me these absolutely wonderful beaming smiles

That's quite a coincidence. Literally last week a couple of friends and I started work on a fanzine which is dedicated to "the small things that make your heart beat faster".
I like:
Old people who call out "thankyou driver" when they get off the bus.

Oh me too, but there's just something about the way old folks call the driver "driver", see also "hello postie" when the postman goes by.

yes, sometimes ive been known to call the taxi driver 'driver' because what else do you call them?
im not a big fan of referring to people i dont know as mate.
something that made me smile:
my neighbours' two little girls selling their little drawings in the street for 5 p each on saturday. i bought one which was of a 'football crazy' bloke for my boyfriend, and a 'cd mad' girl for me.

finally, a good use for talc.
when my girlfriend speaks English, she likes to mix up the adjectives paradox and controversial, in practice it just sounds incredibly cute.

kids make me smile more than anything...
was sitting in London Fields yesterday and a football flew towards me. seconds later i noticed a gorgeous mix race 4 year-old boy that was blatantly looking for it, so i grabbed it and started playing with it pretending it's mine just to see his reaction..when he saw me he ran towards me and just took the ball from my hands without saying a word or showing any signs of shyness, which i found well funny. a few minutes later and after i had forgotten about the incident, he came back holding a daisy and gave it to me!!! now how sweet is that?? it certainly made my day, let alone made me smile.

Outside my office window there's a hedge that is filled with nesting sparrows; listening to them rustle and cheep their way through the day is a small but significant up beat in my otherwise unbearable working day.
Watching my cats bristle at the neighbour cats who occasionally visit our garden. In fact, watching my cats do anything except go into the litterbox brings a smile to my face.

Opening the door to see a jehova's witness coming through our gate this morning... she turned around really quickly and rushed off the moment she saw me. Took me a moment to realise this is because my eyes are BRIGHT red from conjunctivitis and I was wearing a tshirt with a huge grinning Satan face on! I had to chuckle to myself :)

every time my lady bends over to pick something up. Sometimes I'll just drop things at random to make it happen.
My lady's big beautiful blue eyes looking at me when I wake up.
When I stop playing for a moment, and the crowd goes apeshit.
When somebody hands me a fat wad of cash and says "Fuckin nice one, man."
When somebody puts money in my hat.
The first piss of the morning.
The brush of the teeth before I go to bed.
Turnig out the lamp and seeing all the little blinking lights, LEDs, and backlit screens.
Every time my mate's pit sees me and he does this funny little walk where his ass just curls around to the side to the point where he's gettin a bit pissed off at his tail whackin him in the face and half snaps at it.
When my parent's dog farts and he turns around to bark at whoever tweeked his bum.

Indeed, small children do have have a habit of making you smile:
Yesterday, walking to my friends car after uni, I passed a row of houses, one of which had a girl (who must have been all of 3yrs) in the window - she was just staring at me, then she started smiling and waving... to which I did the same thing
That summery feeling, when people are out enjoying the weather, and look like they're definately enjoying one anothers company...
Tiny sparks in your mind that make you catch your breath...
Oh - and this weekend, when it was kinda hot - most people on my road (including myself) had their windows wide open, and music was just filtering down the road... the Cuban couple that live at the top smashed it though with the music they were playing - it just put everyone in such a fantastic mood!!!

On a summer night, when you wake up to find the pillow is a little too warm for your comfort. You flip it over to the othersider:
Aahhhh, cool sleeping delight.
Always brings a grin.

Or, rather waking up in the middle of the night after a big night out before, and find the pillow is a little too wet for your comfort. You've droolled all over it again.

lol classic, i used to talk bollox about inventing a pillow with a little refridgerated insert in the middle to keep the side of your face nicely cool on those hot nights, i hate warm pillow syndrome :)

How true - that brought a smile to my face... I was out the window watching the lightning strike, and the people who got caught in the rain, scurrying about... not that seeing them get soaked made me smile, of course...

Lightning Storms in general I love. Shame we don't get them where I live very often. Was caught in an amazing one a few years ago. Driving up from Phillidelphia to New Jersey at about 2am, this absolutely massive lightning storm came in front of us, and as we drove, moved around to the right, then back behind us, all we got caught in was a bit of rain. But it was bloody fantastic to watch. I love lightning.
Also, on a slightly related note, one thing that never fails: The sound of train falling on a tent. Something just incredibly great about being inside a tent when it's raining.

don't have a view from the room i make music in, just concrete wall & a touch of sky. so when a squirrel decided to pop by every day and have a sniff around, this made me smile. then the other day, when the sun really shone the first ray's of summer the squirrel brought it's new nipper along to show it 'the way of the sniff'. the little bugger was totally ignoring it's mum/dad by going off on it's own fresh adventures. smiles for miles....
