Heya technical studs !

I have collected alot of avi-video-material to make a long video
out of it...the video is all in all 3 hours long now and i have converted every section to 640x480 pixels Divx Avi with 44hz stereo sound...now my harddisk is full (22 GB videofiles) !

What would you recommend me ?
How shall I convert those huge files into smaller ones ?
What is a good avi resolution ? 640x480 is way to high, is it ?
What is there else technical i gonna have to take care ?

In other words : TELL ME WHAT IS A GOOD VIEWABLE AND NOT
TOOO BIG VIDEO AND AUDIO RESOLUTION and WHICH CODECS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ?

I do not know much of these convert techniques !
Maybe YOU do !

Thanks in advance ! :)

took this off another board:

1 or 2 CDR AVI's: 352x480 Interlaced at 23.96 with 3:2 pulldown (for 23.97 AVI's, otherwise it's 29.97), 2-pass VBR, 1000 min, 2500 Average, 6000 max. Center, keep aspect ratio. I also use a lot of 352x240 @29.97 fps progressive encode. For film sources there is absolutely no difference between the 2 (go 2-pass 300 min, 2000 avg, 4000 max).

2 (very short movies), 3, and 4 CDR AVI's: 704x480 Interlaced at 23.96 with 3:2 pulldown (for 23.97 AVI's, otherwise it's 29.97), 2-pass VBR, 1000 min, 4000 Average, 8000 max. Center, keep aspect ratio.

Audio: I use AC3 if it's there, otherwise MP2 at usually 192K (or lower to match the source)

i´m sure extensive use of google might provide more answers, i ain´t that much of a crack in this field either but this might help for a start.
in my opinion by ´downgrading´ your sound to mp3/ac3 will save the most. 44kHz is way too big.
