Don't expect many of you here will have heard this name, I hope I'm wrong however. I just did a gig at the weekend on the same bill as Charles, and he completely blew me away! The reason I'm posting about it here, is that it consisted of some seriously sub-bass-driven electronic pulses and distorted samples / analogue tweekings, closely followed by two amazing jazz drummers (on two kits, one of them being Mr Hayward) at a furious pace. The tempo of the pulse may then change, at which point one drummer follows and the other introduces some additional poly-rhythm. Then just when it seems as if all the rhythms are completely independent of each other they all come stomping together again. Honestly boys and girls, it was a savage onslaught, and something that would not be out of place within the walls of a dirty techno club, especially as it was accompanied by strobes and decent visuals! Words never convey music very well, but hey, I just had to write something.
