has your tolerance for whats mental gone up in the last couple of years?
i`m listening to much more sick records than i was a couple of years ago, i like this new distorted cut up mangled stuff.
its still kinda techno and electro but much more knackered than what i was listening to maybe 3 years ago.
is your taste getting rougher?

Definatley! mashed up twisted beats are dominating my record collection now days than just driving techno...
Although ive been getting records sent from expressillon (paris ) which have been a bit more faster but still some sick beats.

I think a lot of people who got bored with the state of more traditional techno started to look elsewhere and realized that there are loads of excellent records coming from the more noise/harsher side of thigs. I've noticed this with quite a few of my friends.
I've always liked a bit distortion myself...

my tolerance for noise is up there as ever but if it's me choosing the music i'm tending towards the kind of thing i used to think was really pappy, like disco and singy music. i mean i've still got ears for gabba and nastiness but yeh.

yeah, rough, harsh, mangled stuff that changes loads through out the track is what i am looking for when record shopping these days.

my taste hasnt got rougher, as ive been into twisted stuff as far as i can remember but my openmindedness in music just keeps getting bigger and bigger...constantly finding new music..
. ie the stuff i play on my radio show i probably would never have dreamed of playing 2 years ago

Mines has, I've gone from the sounds of Sweden into loving all those mashed up tracks which are covered in layers of noise and squeak. All your Venetian Snares type stuff is a bit too far for me, I still like it but I can't get into.

thats the key i think. I've definately become more open minded towards music as I've grown older. Just too much good music that simply cannot be ignored. I hope to reach 90 and still be headbanging to Merzbow or whatever it is the kids will be listening to.

i agree mine has also. i hear more people saying they listen to this stuff 5 years or even ten yrs ago, but i cant see how you go from "idm/breakcore/etc..." to less complicated genres. but

i also have gotten tired of mash-up and breakcore. its all being recycled now. and i find myself going back to perlon type house and minimal glitch ~scape stuff.

and the fucking flashbulb. he rocks it for me

after all this intense horror music maybe the only way to go is the polar extreme, lift muzak, no cuts no edits, just xylophones, not trippy ones either and pan pipes, yeah that would do it

I used to be really into noise like whitehouse the likes, for ages I was into this (in around 94/95), whilst still being into "arm chair techno" but then got back into more "tuneful" stuff (around 96/97), and generally I have stuck with that, although now and again i like mental stuff but it has to be proper not just some noddy with a distortion pedal shouting with some gabba breaks underneath.

For me it's less distortion these days. I used to hang out with Core-tex Labs a lot, so I had a pretty good dose then. I'm starting to get into more like Jobim, Gilberto, Hossam Ramsey, Tchaikovsky,Chopain, Caroliner Rainbow, and Peter Gabriel/Genesis.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

i hardly listen to techno these days. always loved noisy and distorted stuff, but i hardly listen to it at home as well. techno & breakcore etc. is party music for me, the best party music there is i´m really into hecker, pita, haswell, oval etc., but that´s different noise, innit? well, i also love my music beautiful, music to fall asleep to or (day-)dream away...since i spent more time at home than in a club, i tend to like my music softer than years ago.

I've found my love for fuck-off distortion is getting larger by the year. But come on, who DOESN'T love fuck-off distortion?

Since i got to know you guys my tolerance has certainly gone up in listening to music! lol

But to tell the truth, the later the night gets the more "noisy" i prefer.
At home i hardly listen to any "IDM" (i really hate that description)

The first time i heard a chan & mikes record i thought "holy shit! Whats that?"lol But then it grows on you..and you keep buying more of that stuff..

Basicly I prefer a very wide spectrum of music (exept goa), depends on my mood..

yeah, weird is what i meant, sick edits and twisted sounds
i kinda prefer the stuff that is still for the dancefloor
which dancefloor i`m not exactly sure :) but mangled shit you can still dance to.

I often still start the day with Non/TG/Whitehouse - I've always liked sick and twisted stuff but I can also be found singing the words to Steps - I guess I'm just sick :)

i've gotten real tired of tha mashups, plunders and anyfink wif "core" in tha definition... it was pretty interesting for a while , but now its worn out on me...at tha mome I'm tottally obssessed with "grime" and dark garage+breax... those basses are total body musik for me,.. much more physikal and refined... i love it... but i still love tha slower industrial rolling beeats sum of tha mashup producers rip out. and it is fun to make.

I keep thinking I'm going the other way cos I like disco re-edits and dad house, but as I type I'm listening to Ultravistor VERY VERY LOUD on my headphones and tomorrow I am going to check out Rob Hood in Leeds, so maybe I'm keeping the right balance.

actually I've noticed I like listening to all that stuff like manitoba, carpark, morr music etc. - that's pretty much no cuts/edits & plenty of hard-hitting xylophone action too - good summer music.
