What's happened to the long-promised Chris Cunningham Neuromancer? I heard talk recently that the possibility had been revived.

It's happening! Solaris is getting remade... I can't remember the director, but it's an established hollywood feller, I keep thinking Jim Jarmusch, but it's not him...

solaris? hm not one of my favourite books of lem. too much classic sci-fi and not enough of da real lem.
i mean that was one of his earlier works.
"peace on earth" would be more interesting to watch as "solaris" i guess.

i had similar
approbations

I went to see Minority Report the other night, one of the previews was a 30 second preview of "SOLARIS" directed by James Cameron... There were some fancy stars in it but i forget who...
Ugh, we are doing hollywoods bidding by building hype! arghrwgoi;!

Here is the previews link:

Ringworld - Larry Niven

definately classic sci-fi

stranger in a strange land or friday from robert a. heinlein.
more interesting than some niven stuff i think. i liked niven and read 3 ringworldbooks but it just some short time fun. i always missed some different/deeper layers of the stories.

yep, perfect hollywood fodder...good story, maximum special effects/cool tech potential and minimum content.

btw i think i see some of Louis Wu in Ford Prefect...?

The Magus -John Fowles. With the special effects avalible today, amazing things could be done with this story.

Deccard:

What Neil Gaiman piece is being made into a movie?

Will Dave Mckean be involved on the visual side? I really enjoy his style.

+ For the sake of discussion: Who would be good, in your opinions, for the book -> film transfer, by way of audio and visual-

Cryptonomicon
director:?
Soundscore:?

(I'm just curious to see what sort of style various people keep for the inner translation).

good omens by neil gaiman and terry pratchett.
the film will be directed by terry gilliam who made some very cool movies but as i read they don´t have enough money yet.
i didn´t read the book i must say. i´m more into gaiman´s comics.

Anything by Jeff Noon would be interesting .... I'd have no idea how Vurt and Pollon would translate in to film ... But Needle In The Groove could be a bit special .... especially with a S_C soundtrack

Good Omens is excellent; funny as fuck and a little bit disturbing too. I can't wait to see what Terry Gilliam does with it.

I would like to see 'the watchmen' (comic book) by Alan Moore. I believe it was being made into a film some time ago, but i haven't heard anything more on this!

Also, the banned comic-book 'Brought to Light' (http://www.codexbooks.co.uk/brou.html) (but i haven't heard the soundtrack to this...

and also Isaac Asimov's 'Foundation'

ok - that's the dark stuff over with *g

i'd like to see also, Paolo Coehlo's 'The Alchemist' made into a film

and also any book by Terry Pratchett!

"Brave new world" Aldous Huxley...

But NOT hollywood style, should be true to the core in a kind of old 1940 science fiction film but with 21st century technology.....

Would like to see a filmic translation of Albert Camus' "The Outsider"
(L'etranger), could be interesting.

yes, I think most of all, this book by Huxley deserves to be made, and made soon, for all of it's comments on soma, castes, and cloning, propanganda, state programming are relevent to our existence.

perhaps the coen brothers would be a good choice for this film???

unfortunatly brave new world was made into a straight to tv holywood peice of crap about 5 years ago. it was so poor.

house of leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski would make an amazing film, would have to be done well though.

Solaris has already been a film for years and years. I haven't read the book but I've seen Tartovsky's film several times. Its very haunting - makes everything go all quiet and 'ooo' when I think about it. very long though and slow and arty in a lovely wierd way.
erm - i can't think of any books i want as films apart from James Ellroys 'The Black Dahlia' -

@deccard - stranger in a strange land was being made, in 2000 it was still in the script stage (http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/strangerinastrangeland.html) but scott rudin's producing it based on the unedited version (which i've still to read) tho they've not stayed completely true by the sounds of it
hope it gets finished it'd be a fantastic film to see!

@mattp - i reckon vurt would work if gilliam directed it!

personally i think spares or only forward by michael marshall smith would make great films

brave new world only if its done metropolis stylee!

@filthydave: cool. that was heinlein´s best book.

@lefthandlou: the guy who made oceans 11 gonna make solaris? oh no. why don´t they get some fresh people with new ideas before hollywood turns them into something i don´t have words for?
fightclub/fincher made panicroom: have they lobotomized him?

I'd love to see a film of The Wasp Factory made by Lynne Ramsay, though it would be difficult to keep the shocker denoument a secret.
Last month I would have said Morvern Callar but lo! it appeared as if by magic with a cracking soundtrack to boot.
Bret Easton Ellis's Glamorama would be interesting but difficult to film too as would be Eco's Foucault's Pendulum.
