...never ceases to amaze me.

Last night Dojo Magazine (relatively young local mag) had a release party for the newsest issue. Beyond a sweet eclectic crowd/sound combo, the event included a do-or-die dance duel between an assembled cast of some of Toronto's finest Breakdancers and Capoeria dancers... Soundclash: Funk, Soul, slick DUB styles.

Perched on a teeny-tiny ledge- I barely held on (girlie footwear and too much funk) as the groups squared off with some of the most graceful, precise- slick-ass strength moves I have ever seen... - Clusters of friendly "Whatchu-got?" moments- paired with humble slow-motion fight sequences... It was difficult not to jump in- energy=contagious.

Slightly off-topic- but damn. The human capacity for rhythm astounded me last night.

My cousin was Lancashire Breakdance champ 3 years running !.

And that's about as rhythmic as my family gets really.

But I'm dead good at the 'pointy finger in the air' dance and gurning.

hehehehe..the mentioned guy did lots of crazy/funny things.
great memorys for me :D
i can remember so many parties where he was the show of the evening.....f.e. he started to strip once at a party and we (nearly everybody at the party) shouted out his name louder than the music until somebody stopped him dressing off (think he was one of the organizers).

WHEN PEOPLE DANCE THEY USUALL CHANGE DIRECTION IN TIME WITH THE START OF THE PERCIEVED SOUND EVENTS (BEATS, DOWN-BEATS WHATEVER....), AND OF COURSE THAT DEFINES THE SHAPE OF THE SPACE.

BUT MOST OF THE MOVEMENT ACTUALLY HAPPENS BETWEEN THE SOUND(S).
THATS WHY DANCING IS THE THE BEST WAY TO UNDERSTAND MUSIC (INCLUDING HEAD DANCE).
BETTER EVEN THAN ALOT OF PEOPLE WHEN THEY PLAY/WRITE MUSIC.

MUSIC = DANCE OR AT LEAST WOULDN'T EXIST LIKE IT DOES IF IT WERNT FOR MUSIC.
