I'm wondering if this would be a viable way to programme a club night - 10 people, 20 random trax each. Be a good way to defuse DJ ego clashes if the random element was brought in!

I had a mate who did somethign similair at his night in a pub. He took a minidisc player and stuck on it hundreds of loops from all Warpy type stuff. Then he just stuck it on random to play for half an hour.

Reaction was a bit mixed, my flatmates who are all into it kept moaning about they just wanted to hear the tunes without it jumping about and they were missing the best bits of the tracks. I thought it was alright apart from the occasional bit of nonsense.

Quite bizarre... 2 tracks from the same artist, and the rest comprised of things I've either never heard at all (or heard of, in some cases), and a couple of bits I've listened to loads of times. iPod djing - there's just something about not right about it. I mean the iPod's alright, buts its this compulsion to go down swanky bars and bore people with the music you have on your 'personal' music player...

You know its all a bit 'loadsa money' innit? I mean a certain other forum was discussing the iPod and the conversation soon steered around to 'the fear' of whether or not you might get mugged because people would recognise the trademark white headphones cables and realise you had a four hundred nicker brick in yer pants...

Maybe its just me, but there's something inherently snobby about that - I mean if you're that worried don't live in Dalston you twats, or at least don't live in Dalston and walk around with that ohmygod look at those people, I bet they've got raging crack habits look on your face, cos you'll probably be too distracted to notice the tramp lamp you on the side of your head with his can of MegaDeath Cider, relieve you of the few quid you've got and chuck yer walkman thing in the nearest bin when he can't work out how to change the tape from that god awful din you've got playing...

I don't think it's like that grobelaar. You know where I live, but I keep my ipod out of sight wherever I am, be it the leafy suburbs or the inner city. People HAVE been targetted for muggings due to the visible white headphones, I'm avoiding any nastiness possible, particularly as someone who dissolves into a puddle of mush at the slightest threat of physical violence - which more often than not I've encountered in the aforementioned suburbs - never felt threatened in Hackney. Well, not since I was dragged into a doorway by 3 kids on Old St., punched, kicked, headbutted and threatened with a stabbing in exchange for my wallet...but that was over 10 years ago.

Sure, it's an essential fashion accessory for many people, but I for one can't afford to follow fashion due to an insatiable and expensive appetite for music, and this particular machine works best for my listening habits outside of the home. I wanna keep it, and if I know there's a viable way of helping myself to keep it, I'm gonna use it.

Plus, my black earphones sound fuck loads better than the white ones.

hey mdk, yeah rob is one of the guys from tortise and underground trio, quartet, etc. he also has a few alais's one that i think is really good if your a fan of noise, casey rice style. is orton socket.

this track is from silver spines, i forget what label its on, maybe 4ad or some unhear music releated label.
