is it really that good? I reckon the gamecube is the best console around at the moment? was thinking about the Xbox, but I am no big fan of Microsoft?

that good??! really not, the games are slow, the graphik engine could be more powerfull, and the controller are really bad... sure, its a matter of taste, but microsoft is a software producer, not a real good hardware one.

just take "halo". a really cool game, on pc, but on xbox its so slow and boring cause of the nvidia shaders... pfui!!

playstation rulez, and pc sowieso :)

so long

how can you know if the pc version of halo will be better - or if it comes at all...

i think it's for sure that the xbox has the most advanced technology of all consoles - currently. graphics on consoles were always crap against pc, and as xbox is kind of a standardized pc...

but on the other hand i always found consoles, games and accessories too expensive and especially the controls are too limited (who wants to play a shooter or an adventure with a gamepad ??).

but now after the hacks things might become more interesting... games on cd-r even ?? not on dvd-r ?

i'm going for ps2. if the price is right or if i consider myself wealthy, that is (the price i still high compared to Nintendo GC in sweden). the box? me? not bloody likely. shure it's got some seriuos power and dvd, but lacks all that videogames stand for. and i can't really say it's a pleasant sight (aswell as it's dvd-controler and other gadgets). "standardized pc" is not such a bad name for it, and alredy have a pc...

im dont know... to me the box is fine and i trust the microsoft lameness cause i know they will stay in the business and not drop the box after 6 months, ala dreamcast, ala n64 and so on..

Now that it is obvious that Microsoft is in the videogame business for the lonf term, we should take heart, and advantage of the recent price drops.

Regardless of your corporate hatred, any true gamer would acknowledge the strides that the Xbox has made.

I remember a few years ago people talking about a company that traditionally made TVs and HiFis who were bringing a console out.

"Would would anyone buy a console from Sony?" they said. "How will they compete against Sega and Nintendo, when they have all the games."

Now look at the Playstation, the most popular games console out there now.

Give the X-Box time, I'm sure it'll take it's share of the market and games.

Yeah very true, but also bear in mind how much money Panasonic put into promoting and licensing the 3DO... Remember that? Probably not, cos it died on its arse

(for the record it too was the most advanced console on the market, knocked the stuffing out of the PSOne)

I think M$ have an uphill struggle on their hands and its debatable whether the X-Box is the best on the market, its certainly got bits that seem advanced, but as every PC user will attest, M$ have never been too good at gluing them together with a decent robust OS. Not to mention many developers have finally got to grips with PS2 complicated graphics architecture and are now turning out some cracking looking titles...

loads of consoles fail, look at the Amiga CD32, the first 32-bit console ever created. However, MS have lured a lot of traditionally PC-developers (such as demi-god Peter Molyneux, creator of so many games that wasted my childhood away) to produce title for the Xbox. Also, with the price drop, it's a very competative package.

Sure, not a lot of games yet, but wait until developers get more comfortable with it, and start pumping them out all the time.

Also, the Xbox runs on a cutdown version of Windows 2000, which I use on my PC, and have yet to get it to crash.

So far the only complaint I've heard about the Xbox was the first run of them scratching the fuck out of any CD you put in it, a problem that was fixed.

i got a shitloads of cd-r's last night... and damn its totally over the top.. top notch everything actual...

i am now feeling like had a kid with a wierd syndrome that gets stared at in public.. and then the silence breaks.. he does magix tricks and deals cards and shit...

i doubt they will stop the xbox.. there losing $150 of the $350 ciost on every system and they knew exactly it would happen.. so they must have a plan b crwaling up somewhere

its the nearly official strategy fo microsoft. they know since they started to develop the xbox that they will have losts in the first years of establishing.
their plan is easy: in ca2 years then xbox2 is coming they will start to earn some money (with building on the established xbox1). and of course with the gamelicences, there you earn the most money at the consolemarket.
we will see if this works

they've got all kinds of funky shiznit up their sleeves over at redmond. in any case, I'm not too fond of ms expanding into another field, but aside from all that, I just prefer the psx 2. Personally, I don't own any console anyways coz Mame just r0x0rs the hell off of any current game (well aside from maybe tony hawk...)

I prefer the PS2, because of i have some games of the PS1 and i love the controllers! Best controllers i ever have hold in my hands, they are small and robust.
Further there are some good games out...

people say that the xbox has way better graphics and what-not but from what I've seen they look all the same to me, but ps2 has gta3 which is the best freakin game I've ever played....as far as the dvd apparenly ps2 is better picture, xbox is better sound....and the xbox controller is absolute rubbish

I choose to buy an XBOX the other nite,

because i havnt a Pc yet, i was debatingon the PS2,

but such games as

Morrowind
Splinter Cell

are coming out on XBOX
along with other cool Stratagy and RolePlay games,

I made the right choose years ago when i choose PS1, this time around th elogic goes, yes XBOX is basicly a PC, look at all them PC games!!!!
gonna be easy to port over. MS are a mighty company so will be able to presuade developers to make cool games for the XBOX, the Game Cube will die a death soon as Nintendo are cheese, no serious gamer would choose a nintendo product nowadays.

do the other consoles have a hard disk?

Also MS are starting an internet thing for the XBOX, XBOX live i think its called.

£200 for that consol is a bargain for what you get!

Not that I want you to spoil it - but there was all this talk about there being a massive twist rigged up in it depending on how you play it or something, which is supposed to blow your mind. Any proof in that as far as you're concerned?

I'm on these levels with these bloody zombie like alien freeks, with face huggers and sh!t. Its uber hard I tell ya.

reckon its makes a cracking two player side by side game, working together to nail them Fuka's.

But I dont like the zombie aliens much, they piss me off. At least with the others you can be tactical, but with the zombies its just a blast fest.

I want Morrowind and Slinter Cell.

I guess you already have it MUX if your in the states, my mate has the US version of the XBOX and already has the game, cool.

I'll be getting mine chipped so I can play inports, as the games are cheaper to buy over the net than they are to buy in the UK!!!! Or better still, just download some images of the net, and burn some pirate copies!!!

Does the PS2 and GameCube have a Hard disk? i love the fact I can put my own music on it and let the games play with MY tunes! i know I know, I hear you say, just turn the in game music score down and stick a CD on.

Hey MUX when XBOX Live is going we'll have to have a Death match in HALO! or what ever else is about when its lunched.
