View Full Version : Vogel&halle02== Bullshit???
CHIP TRONIC

Well guys, i was there on Friday.
AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Maybe it was the fault of the soundsystem,
but i haven´t heard such bullshit for years.
And I guess i am quite up to date with records and Styles, cause i am deejaying myself that style.
.
Well the dj before cristian was quite bad indeed.
But I looked forward to Cristian´s SET.
And what must i listen to:
Stakatto-like fucked up bullshit techno, boring, dusty sound, no subbasslines, no funky noises, almost no variations.
---------->boring as hell
conclusion: Either the soundsystem was bad like hell or Cristian is only a good producer but a fucking bad dj
well - we must all face criticism in life and learn to deal with the good and the bad...
i thought my set at halle02 was a good one - it was a little difficult at first , but then i know i played a good, honest , open and progressive selection of music....
i'm the one who is getting dissapointed - after nearly 8 years of constant DJing performances , i am saddened by the way some people recently have been making enourmous efforts to get back stage , post on message board etc just to tell me that (a) i am not playing my own sound .... (how can that be even possible ???) .... (b) i was just playing a bad sound , not like the tape they have or the one set they heard in Tresor berlin or something.... and i am gettin annoyed by the pre-set threats like - 'i travelled 5 hours to see you play , you'd better be good....'
when i see a musician or someone who i respect perform their shit, and i don't like it , i know there may be external factors , but I would NEVER be so rude as to find my way backstage , find the artist and tell them they were shit to their face... this kind of response disrespects the emotional investment and the miles that myself and other DJs and artists have to travel to express our personal ideas in music to an audience... its not easy by any means , and thoughtless critics and personal , misinformed negative judgements is only a symptom of a scene going down the pan ... if you think you can do a better job , than get out there , do the hard work , dedicate yourself like I have tried to do, and see if you can survive the peace for a few years...

Hey Chip Tronic,
Perhaps it was just a matter of taste. Some like a certain kind of music and some not. To talk hasty about a shitty set is quite easy.
Go on and discuss your opinion about the music with others and as Cristian said with him eye on eye.
I say that he would have been luckier if you would have spoken to him right after his set to talk about the problems you had with his music this evening.
You know sincere critic is one of the main things in our society. It helps to find others and us.

some people just don´t get the hint what an artist really is.
somehow some people think of music only in popstructures.
big artist, big money, professional monkey that does only a job like takin out the garbage for too much money.
what really nerves me is that some dj´s always think about other dj´s "uh i could have done that better. he´s crap." where is this idea about working together to get good music and nice partys and leave others their taste?
fuckin style police.
on the other hand constructive critisism is ok but not such disrespectiv shit.

@ chip tronic
what the hell?!
i was there too and well, to me it was also a bit to hard and fast. but i don´t go to clubs expecting to see a jukebox behind the decks playing what I wanna listen to, so i´d never be so disrespectful to post such a crap. and by the way, i´ve never seen such a ridiculous and arrogant description of a producers own sound as in your biography. you really think you´re music is extraordinary? if you were really an interisting producer from heidelberg, i would know you - but i guess i don´t...
@ cristian
big ups for all you have done so far to widen the borders of music and to fill the white spots on the map inside music´s borders.

"And I guess i am quite up to date with records and Styles,"
Chip Tronic-Tis a shame you are not so up to date in terms of 'critical style'. Being a great fan of criticism myself (it is what artists need to develop and improve) there are effective ways of doing it. Politely and intelligently, other wise it has no effect or power other than that of presenting your views as a bit dumb. you sound like you have some kind of 'chip' on your shoulder . Isn't it better to say 'i didn't like that very much because...' rather than 'boring bullshit...'
Was the music bad because it was bad or perhaps because you didn't know how to listen to it? Perhaps you are too concerned with being 'up to date' and missed the point. Perhaps you were right about the music but that's irrelevent now because your critical delivery is so unsophisticated it is hard to give it any credibility.
Consider the subjective aspect of a point of view or opinion and how it says as much about the speaker as the thing spoken of
yes, there's constructive criticism on the one hand and being a total pratt on the other.Unfortunatly, you can't reason with an idiot and your diplomatic responces will be lost on chip. He is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I totally agree. I would have thought that a simple "not my kind of music", or even more simply "I didn't like it" would have sufficed. Sure, it is good to help someone if you think you can actually help, but in my opinion, comments such as those above isn't helping anyone apart from maybe letting the person in question off-gas a bit.
Different strokes for different blokes mate.

I dont think Ive ever been "backstage" in my life, although I have on occassion collared perfomers and congradulated them when I think they've been reaaly good, and Im sure this can be bloody annoying as well (maybe a dozen times in 22 years of going to to see bands Djs and performers, sorry Cristian, I did this too you a couple of years ago in glasgow...) Ive never gone up to someone and said they were rubbish...In a way I dont see the point, just dont go to see them again if you dont like it, or dont dance, or dont buy their records....Ive been on the receiving end of this kind of thing once or twice, and I just couldnt understand why the people didnt just go to another room....I have been occasionally asked by performers what I thought of their turns, in those circumstances its usually people who I know and am reasonably into (I wouldnt be there otherwise)...In my experience anybody I think is good, usually knows themselves when they were'nt quite up to par without me telling them!
...Im just sorry i was stuck in Glasgow skint and working, whilst others were at Sonar, I'll have to save my pennies for next year...At least i'll get to see Dave T at Test on Friday, and I look forward to seeing Cristain play again at some point in the future

I’ve seen that a few times that girls or boys taking their books to the club and want the DJ to sign it. That’s quite funny, like in the primary school.

Heh there's been quite a few times where I've been in a club where the DJ booth is a little too near the dancefloor and some dick has decided that he thinks the DJ is shit, and one on occasion decided to do summat about it, ie. fuck around with the record while the DJ wasn't looking. And said dick got a wack from the DJ and everyone just cheered ...... Ade Fenton I salute you.
I thought security were supposed to stop these people getting backstage ? I can understand a DJ getting a little annoyed with 100 hands to shake whilst trying to mix, but if some idiot came backstage and started havin' a go .... grrr .....
And while we're at it, come up to Liverpool / Manchester to play and treat us to some fresh interesting music, cos if I have to see Dave Clarke one more frickin' time ..... ..... .....

hehehe...it is funny to see people standing in front of a dj (or artist) and wanting an autogramm...i never understood this and will never understand.
@cristian:
when i read the post from tomoki it makes me remembering the party before the last stammheim party where someone gave you a poetry book to sign but you passed it to maud and she wrote someting in it........looking forward too see (when your are playing)the faces from those autogramm hunters when you don't give them one just like neil and bill did @stammheim.....lol
is it true that some people want to have an autogramm on their arm (how stupid is that, i guess they just want to show someone "hey look here mr. vogel gave me an autogramm on my arm, yeah cool"...uh..oh..that is so stupid) ???
or can anyone explain me what an autogramm is useful for ???
p.s. from time to time there are some (not from cristian but other artists) available at e-bay....

The last time I started chatting to a DJ at the end of the night, a certain Mr Forshaw had to drag me off and take me home cos I was scaring him ... never mind eh ...
I didn't think I was that bad ....

Well, If you read my post exactly, (which was written quite quickly)
you may find out that i am not sure whether the set was too bad or the sound system was too bad.
I am only sure, that a lot of people were really fucked up after D-MANs Set who didn´t stop deejaying and that everyone expected something better, funkier.
partially it was and as cristian already said it was a bit difficult at first.
but half of the people weren´t not able to spend their time in the room where the music was played.
Probably if the sound system had been better the effect would have been different.
Perhaps next time other place.
I HOPE THIS WAS CONSTRUCTIVE ENOUGH!
And i think discussing a matter is better than condemning an artist!
THAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE POST
And I don´t want to see a jukebox but mostly i see jukeboxes!

Moreover I regard Cristian as a dj/musician ,not as a god
or as a beatbox.
perhaps some regard him as god(damn autograph thing etc.)
but at least it´s only music.
And of course i´ll visit future gigs.
Ok my criticicism was hard. Let´s say it wasn´t crap. It was the wrong place and the wrong time. So i didn´t like it.
that´s exactly the same only put into different words.
Did anyone of you listen to D-Mans set?
In my opinion it was the reason.
it´s like eating wrong combination of food or drinking too much booze. at a certain time you cannot stand it any more.
By the way it´s more honest to say someone directly in his/her face what you think about his/her P E R F O R M A N C E on that day than mocking and complaining endlessly all the time.

CHIP TRONIC... I am a music writer (and musician), so I obviously think constructive criticism is important... Your tone, however, was just rude. It's fine to be abusive about shit music (i.e. trance), but when someone you have been impressed by takes a turn you don't like, perhaps you should question WHY you don't and what assumptions you are making. You are not going to make anyone give a shit about your opinions if you repeatedly call their music "bullshit". And by refusing to apologise, and trying to justify this rudeness in your later posts, you are just digging yourself in deeper. OK, we know you didn't have a good time on that night, I think you should drop the topic now and maybe try and introduce yourself to the board with some positive comments... What DO you like?

sorry, usually i just keep quiet when i dislike others' stuff. but those who claim the right to judge quite so LOUDLY get shouted back at when they present a track like this as a reference.
and concerning audience - it's not only that people dare to talk to djs during their performance. every time i play live some idiot comes over and asks something, suggests a style direction the liveset should go into, asks if the track is available on vinyl or wants to discuss the software !! when will these fucking idiots finally get exterminated ?! why can't they at least wait until the gig is finished ? sometimes i can't see the screen because of 3 noses in front of it. it's the same type of people obviously who only watch the dj all the time but never dance.

before i start referring to Cristian´s comment about criticicism
some words:
1st) it´s all a matter of taste
(ok. perhaps B.Girl is bullshit but some tracks need to be produced.
anyone wanting to remix it to show what he /she cans.
so if you want me to be constructive be constructive yourself, too and don´t start mocking )
2nd) there are still references to other tracks on the page.
If you still find them crap, that´s ok then. I didn´t call myself a messiah or something like that, So please don´t exaggerate.
3rd) in my original comment i reffered to THAT evening on friday june21st @halle02. I remember that last year @Nature One 2001 cristian´s set was excellent(no joke, no assmoving , whatever)
so i expected something like that again, which was probably wrong, because a dj is of course no jukebox. I didn´t like d-man´s set. So perhaps i wasn´t able to judge it properly.
I never referred to the productions of anyone cos i know that i am not as good as they are. It was only my personal opinion as "user".
4th)and i regret that my words sounded too hard. so i want to apologize for the first comment!
it wasn´t fair to make only Cristian responsible for a bad evening.
But please don´t reproach me with that endlessly.
I know that i was an idiot and next time i will consider words more carefully.

dj criticism - christ, it's just playin records, remember? any fucker with records can do it. the reason you book someone like vogel is cos he has released many good records, so he has a name which attracts a crowd. thats the way the biz works. maybe people have started expectin too much. when the scene was young you could probably get away with playin any old shit and people would love it, now we're all totally picky. i only asked for an autograph once.
I was eighteen ( a long time ago) and had just moved to London without knowing a soul. I spent all my food money on a ticket to go and see Nick Cave reading from his new book. Faint with hunger I waited till after the show and watched him sign books and rock-chick's bosoms in the venue foyer. I knew I had to speak to him as he was (and sadly still is) my idol. I couldn't afford the book so I got presented him with a bus ticket to sign. I mumbled something like - 'I'm sorry I haven't got the money to buy your book can you sign this and I'll stick it in the front when i buy it' without even looking at him cos I was so scared.
He asked me my name, said something corny like 'what a beautiful name it really suits you' and gave me the autograph. Then he bent down and gave me a big fat kiss on the lips with a little tounge thing going on.
In the excitement my bladder gave out and I wet myself. Had to run straight to the loos mid-kiss. I waited there, heart palpitating for about 10 minutes but when I came out (wet pants in my bag) he had gone.
A sad story isn't it?

I mean I could go to a Schützenfest as well, get drunk as fuck, and then maybe I would have some kind of fun as well, but what kind of fun would that be? Plus, thinking that records with siren sounds on are cheesy is not the result of having become to picky. Siren sounds were cheesy from the beginning. i'm actually one of the people who gets picky...i don't really know what i was trying to say, i was just ranting. it's probably a good thing that we're all picky now.
but being an old raver i do like siren sounds - UR riot anyone?
but there is a strange thing going on - on the one hand we have the misguided kids who think that dj's are gods. on the other hand we have hundreds of frustrated bedroom dj's who all think they can do better. some are probably right. but they don't know the right people, haven't been in the right place, or haven't made the ultimate dj promotional move and released good records. it's a funny old game. loads of chiefs and diminishing numbers of injuns. glasgow is crazy. everyone setting up nights. i guess we are goin to end up with hundreds of tiny gigs on every night in smaller and smaller venues as the dj/punter ratio decreases steadily until each gig is a one to one affair, one dj and one dj wannabe locked into monoraves where the music isn't that great and the single punter knows he has much better records at home until we all realise there's no point anymore and stop goin out altogether.

but there is a strange thing going on - on the one hand we have the misguided kids who think that dj's are gods. on the other hand we have hundreds of frustrated bedroom dj's who all think they can do better. some are probably right. but they don't know the right people, haven't been in the right place, or haven't made the ultimate dj promotional move and released good records. it's a funny old game. loads of chiefs and diminishing numbers of injuns. glasgow is crazy. everyone setting up nights. i guess we are goin to end up with hundreds of tiny gigs on every night in smaller and smaller venues as the dj/punter ratio decreases steadily until each gig is a one to one affair, one dj and one dj wannabe locked into monoraves where the music isn't that great and the single punter knows he has much better records at home until we all realise there's no point anymore and stop goin out altogether.
I'm an old raver and I fucking love siren sounds. I think my favourite siren sound is on one of Xpress2's first records called 'London Express' which just makes everyone go mental when the sirens kick in, but yeah 'Riot' does it for me big time too...
I also agree with ya on the 'chiefs' and 'injuns' bit too, it's like that here in Liverpool. Loads of small gigs going off with decent dj's/acts but not a lot of people turning up. I wouldn't mind doing a night myself with the sort of artists mentioned on here but I've been told that this would be even more 'specialised' and I would have attendance problems.
It's getting to the point now where I'm in a club, and it's coming up to 02:00, and I'm looking forward to going home so I can stick some of the music I really want to listen/dance to, and have a bop around me living room !!
Ah well ....

Oh yeah, and for the ultimate 'siren sound', there's a night in Manchester called Robodisco (good deep house) and they always have one of those old air-raid sirens on the stage. When the music starts getting going, people can get up and start the fucker off..... the place goes barmy !!!

knid - i thought you might be pals with julie. a french journalist i know wants to get in touch with her, can youhelp?
old skool - julie b was famously a 'hip young gunslinger' with tony parsons (who she later married and then divorced ) on the nme, they were the new punk guard at the prog and out of date nme and scared all the other writers with their sulphate abuse and loud scary music. she ws about 17 then and pretty gorgeous...she has always been a controversial woman, i think she talks shit some of the time but generally i like her stance and i love her writing style.

maybe thats the way its going - the de-massification of, erm, clubbing for want of a better word; with the logical conclusion being laptop jams or something...producer and consumer reunited.
actually maybe not. how can you dance while using a laptop? or maybe you won't need to, all you'll need is a couple of spare fingers to stroke yer chin with.

For the record, I am 100% pro-siren.
Emma, I have yet to meet Julie, but she is a big fan of my friend's band The Readers' Wives, and called him up, and they became fast freinds. He suggested bringing her to the party, and I enthusiastically agreed as so many people there have extreme opinions about her (one way or the other).
James (Super_Collider's live gig bass player) has Chas'n'Dave's autographs on his T-shirt.
I am listening to the Kes soundtrack. It is perfect after getting hammered and listening to nomeansno on a huge sound system until stupid o clock last night.
