yes dave rocked far more than any other official sonar techno people. carl cox amazed me with his crapness. he used to be good. is he past it or what? i was there at moog too but not feelin that sociable for some reason, culture shock maybe? i'm usually more friendly and chatty than that emma - slaggin off messageboards, what a cheek heheh. anyway also BIG respect to dj maud who played by far the best set in the big outdoor day bit and looked so deservedly chuffed with herself after, made me grin. pity she had to stop cos she was startin to make it kick off. and also a big clap and muchas muchas from me for the visuals that accompanied SI futures funktastic set - ribtickling stuff. who did them?

have to say though i was surprised how much really crap music i heard over the 3 days, especially the truly terrible trend that is the deconstructed soulless sound of cd's skipping. too many people playin 'clever' stuff with little or no musical content - just horrible scratchy noises. fuck off and stop wanking in public. also this happened a few times - just as a good atmos was building they replaced the good dj with some crap, like with maud. i think the organisers need to think more about how to build a good atmos, give dj's more time, think more about who gets the crowd going. francois kevorkian rocked too but the place was too damn packed to get a dance.

i think barcelona is my favourite city. but sonar was slightly disappointing. maybe i'm gettin too old to be impressed by some guy makin fart noises come out of a laptop. now i have to learn catalan so i can join the exodus and move there.

Sorry to spoil the good vibes here, but I didn't like Dave's set @ Moog club at all. Too many tracks only consisting of a distorted bassline (sounded like bad drum'n'bass) and rhythm, partly even some fucking rave signals and sirens, sounded really cheap! Sometimes I didn't believe what I was hearing. I was amazed, because his own productions are much more subtle, and I do in fact appreciate them very much. So, still all respect for Dave Tarrida, the producer.

Super_Collider very very good, although I had the impression that the new tracks are a bit too introverted to really "rock" (which does by no means imply that they are bad), although the boys worked their asses off on stage, you know what I mean.

As for the Sonar acts: I don't know which acts Bitch one refers to, I reckon it's mostly those which played at the Sonar complex. Well, I enjoyed some quite a bit, especially Christian Marclay, Goem and Massimo. Other superb performances: Timeblind, Krush, Radioboy, Antipop Consortium, Kotai, S.I. Futures. Not bad: DJ/Rupture, although he obviously can't mix properly, Panasonic & Peaches. Disappointing: Tuxedomoon, Doctor L. And to Jeff Mills: Say what you want, but this man still has class. If anyone should be alllowed to play tools, then he is.

to rave or not to rave that is the question. you like what you like. but i like a bit o cheesy melody, some silly noises and vocals in my techno to wave my glowsticks at. actually i thought mills was playin quite a lot of stuff that might also be looked down upon by rave haters.

i think i heard someone on radio 1 last night describe super_collider as 'a crazy german bloke who looked like wayne sleep leaping around the stage' ...i can't remember the whole description but it was unmistakable, even though most of it was wrong

whoever he was he thought they were good anyway, and it made me laugh...

I agree on Mills' record selection, although I stayed there for the first hour only, and that was filled with tools mostly. But the way he mixes it is still above all those other Schranz guys. And at some moments it was definitely more subtle than Tarrida's set.

will upload some supercollider photos once ive slept a little more... had a great time at the gig, as for montjuic 2, its a mighty big place but for me mr. beggsters -SI Futures- rocked the house together with an interesting appearance from radioboy, anyone like to start a poll on whether the technical problems were faked to add to the edgyness, (i am quite happy to admit that if it was part of the act i was truly had...i was really feeling for Mr. Herbert there...)

surprised not to hear any UK Garage/2 step/R&B, ,there`s some almighty stuff out there ...runs for cover...

I agree that Mills' record selection wasn´t the best. His sound was too fucking hard all over the place as I heard him over my PC-speakers. Perhaps it was the bad sound situation over my PC, but he looks a bit uninspired.
As I heard him the last time in fall 2001 he played funky house with a an excellent house part of about 30 min.
But his mixing style is very unique. I am always inspired to look his hands working like a whirlwindlol

i thought cristian's set at moog was the best thing of the whole festival

super_collider was squeezed in at an abnormal time so we never expected many people to come

but as for radio one - how annoying is that? the guy in the wayne sleep outfit was on 1 hour after collider, he is called Taylor Savvy, he's american and he appeared with Peaches, it was highly amusing.

i would love it if one day, which will never happen, journalists in the more popular media do some research and get their facts right.

ahhh ok...

my mistake; i thought he was giving a bizarre description of jamie...i don't think it was a radio 1 dj/journalist, i think it was some international supastar dj numpty type that they had collared for an interview...

Yeah, Cristian was pretty good, although I was so tired I was nearly falling asleep. But what amazed me is that he didn't play anything of his own (which I had hoped he would do). Or did I miss something?

mr_chombee

cristian played 3 tracks or more from his new dungeon master do-ep on tresor. brilliant record...

i have to revise my above statement
. cristian was good as ever
BUT

our very own MAUDULAR was amazing as bitch one says

fantastic tunes outside with all our mates and she was having such fun...it was beautiful.
that sonar village outdoor stage is truly the best place to play
we all wanted her to go on for hours
although the quadruple measure vodka and tonics would have done for me eventually
