Stranger still.. I'm a man not interested in football.
...i think the germans had more luck than condition in the last years anyway... and they got what they earned...

i feel a little bit confused right know...in fact french beets england in this game from the national perception? maybe i have to watch more football from other counties, in germany football is boring. 22 people running, to kick a ball 90 minutes long and in the end bayern munich wins! only this year not *wuuuuuhaarharhahahr*...OLE BVB...

yes, england played a good game.they just shot too less goals...owen is just unbelievable.

mmmm...is it theoretically possible for England to meet Ireland in the final?
Lady E
8th June 2002, 17:25
ok so the foul wasnt as bad as some of the other ones that argentina made during the match that the ref didnt see - but so what? batistuta deserved to be sent off for his fouls, and he wasnt alone on his side.
the argentines are such dirty cheats...did you hear that simeone (who was repsonsible for david beckhams sending off in 1998) tried to shake his hand before david took the penalty in yesterday's match, just to put him off? and the goal keeper was also shouting "shoot it here, shoot it here" to try to put him off as well.
honestly the catalogue of bad decisions and bad luck england have had playing argentina (hand of god being absolutely the most obvious but by no means the only example) means that fuck whether the penalty was properly awarded or not, we deserved a break for once.
add to that the fact that after the 1998 game the argentinian team rubbed tthe england players noses in their defeat so hard, well i am so pleased we won
jukka
8th June 2002, 17:25

croatia beats italia with more than luck and big help of the referee..really hard not to give two regular goals.
but the result keeps the group thrilling.

Lady E
8th June 2002, 18:18
well if you were an english football fan i think you'd come across a bit bitter
when we are any good there are loads of bad decisions against us
the rest of the time we are really shit
its pretty frustrating!
but its ok now, we've recently beaten germany and argentina and so we can lay those particular ghosts to rest
and Lewis beat Tyson, which is a good result. Although I follow boxing even less than I following football, I think the Lewis Vs Tyson match was more important than the football game against Argentina. But that's just me.
Either way, a result none the less. If Lewis has a bit of sense he'll retire on this high. I'd hate to see him lose a couple of fights and then quite on a low, á la Ali.

@emma
Have you heard about Antonio Rattina - captain and best player of Argentina in 1966, that was sent off without any reasons during quarter final match against England? It was only one problematic decision in favoure of England during this World Cup, the most well known of course is the goal during overtime of the final against Germany, that shouldn't count.
That Rattina story was one of the reasons why Maradona said about "Hand of god". He was cheatting, but still, his second goal was the most fabouls I ever saw during World Cups.
For me almost all players are cheaters (maybe except players like Lineker) because futboll officiating system allows and promotes cheating. There should be at least 2 or 3 referees to watch carefully.

He wasn't sent off for no reason. He was sent off for foul and abusive language (although the ref wasn't a spanish speaker).
I'm glad we beat argentina just to hear their ingracious moaning- lose with some dignity for gods sake. If we beat Denmark then bring on Brazil, that will be a party win or lose - not as much needle as playing argentina

They tried their best, the nation will still be enchanted by them, and you know that they will recieve a hero's welcome when they get back.

Mathematical approach towards the WM 2002
Check this out:
Brazil won the WM last time in 1994,
before that, in 1970;
you add 1970 and 1994 = 3964
Argentina won the WM last time in 1986,
before that, in 1978;
you add 1978 and 1986 = 3964
Germany won the WM last time in 1990,
before that, in 1974;
you add 1990 and 1974 = 3964
Mathematical logic now tells that the champion in 2002 must be
3964 minus 2002 = 1962
1962 Brazil was champion ! Place your bets.
Also Dutch fans have a reason to cheer !
Netherland has never won a WM, so maths tell that they will win
it in the year 3964 !!!!
