have any of you expernced getting a work visa for playing out of your country. for example:
we are coming to europe to play a couple of gigs, we are travelling to 6-7 countries, and only staying for about a month.
what risks are we looking at by not getting work visa's?
if we dont get a work visa, what sort of tactics should we look at learning, to avoid the fines and possible hassle?
does the EU have a lump work visa, or do we have to get 6 differnt work visa's?

i think it depends on the country
between the US and the UK its tricky to be 100% safe you need to have a visa, thats just how the relationship between the two countries works.
its not necessarily the same between other EU countries. it could well be more relaxed.
it also depends how obvious you are going to look at customs as well, will you have loads of equipment / records?
where do you land first of all? thats the main thing you will have to worry about, immigration / passport control probably wont be interested in you travelling around within europe.
its a very common sight to see americans arriving in europe with record boxes, and i cant believe every DJ who comes here gets a work visa every time.
bill youngman / tresor crew will know what the score is for US - Germany.

thanks emma.
i arrive in italy with just a laptop and a bag of cords and a mini mixer. the other 2 members will arrive in germany 4 days later, and will be carrying 2 more laptops and midi keyboards. we dont have that much gear, just cords and such. so i think that i could pass for a tourist with a laptop.
we might be playing in scotland and maybe the UK, but things are not confirmed yet. but in regards to what you said with the UK, what sort of things am i looking at doing to be clear in England?
thanks again, and ill inquire to bill for more info if possible.
cheers/j

so ive got some news about traveling and playing music in the UK and it sounds bad and looks like i have to be really careful. no gear what so ever just a laptop from what i have been told. which sucks.
and i understand. i mean 3 ppl roll up in the airport from america and they have a bag full of cords and midi keyboards, an laptops, that might look funny.
