Roots Manuva shoulda won that Mercury prize years ago (Instead we got a far less talented chap being heralded as having made a major breakthrough for UK hiphop).... Errr sorry(I tried...)!

The OTT choral parts on the LP make me laff tho'! lol

i love the rappin'

but i think the music leaves a bit to be desired
ive only heard 2 or 3 songs tho'
and i realise he just did it on pro tools himself
with no real music background

Yeeeaah - He's a rascal/Dizzee rascal...I reckon his vocal styles puts other Mc's to shame (with the possible exception of Bassman!) He reminds me or Cutty Ranks or some other mad toaster. Propa!

Production wise he still has room to grow (at 19yrs he is only a nipper!!)

The tone of his voice is so annoying, on one constant pitch, and his beats were done on playstation not pro tool.

I reckon Rodrick Manuva is king in UK hiphop
Raskal is a raskal, can't even stand in the shade of that king

Dizzee is OK, nice style,
but after a couple of listenings the album become a bit boring

:D

Not too keen on diz, nice to see better quality stuff being popular. can't say a word against roots tho. there are lots more, I'd like to see an english version of something like anti-pop consortium... oh right, that's philip innit? :)

Sorry but I have to agree with nik -nak on this:

It's about time that Hip-hop stopped being lame.
The music is raw (yes the guy is younger than most here)
To say he has no musical background is a little incorrect as I've heard a few Ragga tunes that he put out a couple of years ago and they rock too.

I know what you say about the monotone aspect of his voice but he is doing somthing with the sound not emulating.
Which is what we all want surley

roots is uk king, definately, but da rascal is only 19 and by the sound of this album, hes only gonna get better.

be fuckin happy that their is some decent fuckin uk music commercially available out there. why is it that whwenever someone like this breaks through in the uk cunts like you just refuse to admit that they've got talent?
sure illmatic is a good album, but just because nas was a year younger than dizzee rascal doesn't mean that you HAVE to draw the comparison!

I love this stuff - Hatcher's the boy for this Dub-step sound - just dont call it garage;) Wileys beats are pretty mad - or lack of beats should i say as he's creating loadsa mad rythms outta just sub base and mad little noises - quite experimental in comparison to alot of the so called Grimey stuff thats about....

Pretty cool site about the more experimental styles of UK breaks and garage...

Just recently have heard this Dizzee Rascal album and it's fucking awsome. Very simple but powerfull beats, really minimalistic sound. It sounds way different from other hip-hop productions I've heard (note that I've never really been into (not Polish) hip-hop because of the language barrier). "I luv U" is definately one of my favourite. As for the rhymes I just got general understanding of what he's on so no comments.

i agree - i think it's really good that an album as dirty and distorted can get mainstream attention... dizzee is a sludge trooper :)

Cunts like me? Well how many times will you want to listen to dizzie's album? because of the tone he uses in every track, the answer is just once. His rhyme scheme is rubbish. Oh because he has blown up and from the uk i should think he is good? Right O

sure illmatic is a good album.. Its a Classic album you prick. With infinite more listenability than Bo in the corner which is just high pitched shit.

anyway , your all techno knobs who dont know fuck about hiphop etc so its not worth me talking to you

phil, sometimes you're pretty funny, but most of the time you're a fuckin prick.
and no, not just cos he's from the uk. hes a young artist and its his first album, so of course its not gonna be perfect.
and how the fuck do you know that i dont fuck about hip hop, eh? ya fuckin bell end.
anyway, you're just gonna disagree with everyone else so your opinion doesn't mean shit to me.

cheers! not many ppl into this in oz...good to have names to track down.. have3 u heard "plastic man" no not that one tha other "dub step" one..??? --> hes wikkid.... isnt it lame that techno has come to this, where even tha artists can't come up wif original names....z:o( can U imagine if they were lyricists...?

@Namshub
No worries matey - yeah Plasticmans tunes are tuff - apparently he had never heard of Mr. Hawtin and his Plastikman guise...

Check www.dubplate.net for more sounds - gotta pick thru the shit (and there is a load of shit garage about!!) but they have some gems MP3d on that site. ;)

Wileys the one tho -truly weird some of the stuff he is puttin out. Eskiboy (which is also wiley) is another...

Safe.

Wiley is the man without a doubt. Cheers for that dubplates link Bracket, it helps as there are so fucking many white labels of this sound flying about. There's an early Plasticman tune that really reminds me of some of J Saul Kane's Octagan Man shit.

And Phil, he's not a hip hop rapper, it's a new style and his flow can't be judged in the same terms. I fucking love his voice, squeaks and all, I listen to the album a lot. For me he's almost like a rock vocallist, yeah his lyrics can be hit and miss but his delivery is the shit and he's got a fuckload of passion in his voice.

Dizzee is raw and I like it. Not exactly high tech but neither's a brick and they're still good.
Aye Hatcha is great but it's hardly comparable. More of a detroit thing going on there maybe...
UK Hip hop? My mate introduced me to Task Force recently; now that's rude.
