The crucial point of these original copyright laws was to protect the work while the creator was alive and for a set amount of time after that person had died.

However, in this day and age it is almost obligatory that if you work creatively for a company that you sign all intellectual property rights away to the company, lets be nice and say that these companies ensure the originators of these ideas receive suitable recompense, whats been forgotten in a world where IP is a commodity held by companies, corporations and organisations is that they're is and always is someone, or a small group of people generating this original materal.

A corporation is a unthinking entity, it is incapable of generating new intellectual property. For me this is just another example of the errosion of individuals rights. Me I have to face the grim news that I'm working generating IP for a company whose CEO, will likely be doing the rounds telling the media what a superb and original story and background world 'he' has generated for a game, ostensibly his right for doing this will be attending meetings where I tell him what the story and background for the game are going to be.

Not getting an honest appraisal of due compensation is one thing, having a snotty nosed, over educated, under-talented twat taking the credit is quite another...
