View Full Version : Dude, where's my country ? by M. Moore

Michael Moore's new book seems pretty directed against Mr. G. W. Bush... I'm looking forward to read this one. And to see the results of his 12-month campaign for regime change in Washington, DC.

Here's an part of what he's writing about it on his website :

I have written a new book, and this Tuesday it's being released. It's called, "DUDE, WHERE'S MY COUNTRY?" Because its content is likely to upset more than a few people, the publisher has "embargoed" the book until midnight Monday (which means no store or media outlet or anyone has access to a copy of the book until then).

They have taken these measures because I have written a book that seeks not to defeat the Bush people next year, but to have them removed from Washington right now. I know, I'm not asking for much. But I have spent the better part of the past year researching and writing this new book, and when you read it you'll see why the current criminal investigation of the White House for outing a CIA agent in revenge is, in my opinion, just the tip of the iceberg. I can only hope that my book will make a small contribution toward that day when we'll see one long perp walk of administration officials in handcuffs being led out of the White House and into a waiting paddy wagon. Like I said, I'm not asking for much.

"Dude, Where's My Country?" is also my humble attempt to violate the Patriot Act on every single page of the book. And, I have learned that many want to get on John Ashcroft's evildoer list with me. There are already a record number of orders from bookstores across the country. The first printing alone is almost one million copies (my last book's first printing was 50,000). Chapters include "Oil's Well That Ends Well," "The United States of BOO!", "How to Talk to Your Conservative Brother-in-law," and more.

saw moore on conan o'brian two days ago, the next book he's writing specifically investigates the connections between the bush family and saudi arabia and between the bush family and the bin laden family.

among other things he claimed that there were several bin laden family members in the us directly after 9/11, and were granted a special right to leave the us by plane during the two days in which all normal air traffic was grounded...

thought his first book was a bit ranty and lame. But I dig what the cat is saying/doing. Bowling for columbine was good, can't believe he got kmart to stop selling bullets. And of course what he said at the oscars was priceless.

I remember reading a German article not too long ago claiming that parts of "Bowling..." were in fact more or less faked or just untrue (e.g. the lockheed plant moore went to doesn't actually produce weapons) - of course his point remains valid nonetheless but it'd be a shame if this were to be true...

yeah, I've read a lot of negative critism about bowling, ie things were exaggerated/faked. But I guess everybody has an agenda at the end of the day, moore is a millionaire. But it's nice to hear the dissenting voices. Without them there is little hope.

still, as someone who spent 5 years living in the us, this baffles me - I'd think it wouldn't be to hard to get material together anyhow without making things up... but I digress

A lot of people with a vested interest in discrediting Moore have instigated various stories relating to the integrity of Bowling for Columbine. He addresses a lot of these roumours here:

I have a soft spot for it, I consider the us a bit like a big lovable lug that's too strong for his own good.

I mean simply the experience of walking into a complete fake bavarian town made out of plastic that actually houses people is worth it's weight in gold.

Anyhow, all in all I found myself mentally saying "yes, exactly" several times while watching bowling... so in my eyes he definitely got it right on a whole.

I kinda feel the same way, I think I get the best out it when I'm there. Also went to school in SF, and that was a really good experience. I love the vast wilderness and the people who love it out there.

@r_v

thats good to know.

I can guarantee to you, without equivocation, that every fact in my movie is true. Three teams of fact-checkers and two groups of lawyers went through it with a fine tooth comb to make sure that every statement of fact is indeed an indisputable fact. Trust me, no film company would ever release a film like this without putting it through the most vigorous vetting process possible. The sheer power and threat of the NRA is reason enough to strike fear in any movie studio or theater chain. The NRA will go after you without mercy if they think there's half a chance of destroying you. That's why we don't have better gun laws in this country – every member of Congress is scared to death of them.

Yeah, there are a lot of journalists using the internet as a source these days and it ain't exactly the most reliable medium.

I'll have to read Dude, Where's My Country soon.

I loved Stupid White Men, even though it scared the hell out of me.

i read some excerpts in the guardian a few weeks ago

im glad he's writing / broadcasting this stuff and making it popularist

but there was a list of left wing standard statements that he was dissing in an attempt to placate the rightwing and convince them to coming over to the left

i found them pretty facile

one was 'dont put suncream on'

as if the whole skin cancer issue is a left wing conspiracy, which as someone in the highest risk category apart from albinos for this disease, i found to be utterly irresponsible.

another was saying that all drugs are shit and the drugs war should be intensified, dealers locked up for life etc- from someone who is teetotal, we know where he is coming from and of course they do impact on the lives of the poor massively etc etc but i find this opinion to be too basic and already proved to be ineffectual to actually be of any use.

im sure another one was about there being no point to prison reform...but anyway...

Digging through Moore's site. There's a ton of good info in there. I found this story about letters sent home by US soldiers in Iraq:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Each letter was signed by a different soldier, but the words were identical:

"Kirkuk is a hot and dusty city of just over a million people. The majority of the city has welcomed our presence with open arms. After nearly five months here, the people still come running from their homes, into the 110-degree heat, waving to us as our troops drive by on daily patrols of the city. Children smile and run up to shake hands and in their broken English shouting, "Thank you, Mister."

Amy Connell, of Sharon, Mass., knew as soon as she received the letter from her son Adam that he did not write it. "He's 20 years old and I don't think his language or his writing ability would have entailed that kind of description," she said.

She was right. Her son didn't write the letter. In an e-mail to ABCNEWS today, the commander of the battalion, Lt. Col. Dominic Caraccilo, said the "letter-writing initiative" was all his idea.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't always agree with Moore's politics or opinions but he reports a lot of good factual information that might not otherwise find its way into the mainsteam.

Michael was in Minneapolis speaking at the University last saturday. There were a few thousand people packed in to the auditorium and it was a good time. His book was being sold there and it appeared that many people were picking them up. I really enjoyed one of the students who introduced him and announced his new book was titled "Dude, where's my car!" ha hahaha. Boy did he feel like a fool, but Moore gave him a pat on the back as everyone was laughing.

During the Q & A that followed a woman envited him and his crew over for dinner, which he accepted stating "No one ever asks that, are you sure you're not canadian?"

nice one!

That was shouted out numerous times, which he laughed about and dismissed. He did advocate getting ahold of the offices for the jockeying democratic candidates for the upcoming elections and making "the people's" opinions and wishes known.

He also handed some money out of his own wallet to some people in the front row who said they needed some.

50 More Lies About the War in Iraq
Former Ambassador Joseph Wilson -- the critic of the war in Iraq whose wife's CIA cover was blown last month -- is coming forward with yet another hit to the administration's credibility. Wilson told the U.S. News & World Report that he "plans to circulate the text of a briefing by analyst Sam Gardiner that suggests the White House and Pentagon made up or distorted over 50 war stories." Gardiner, a war strategist who taught at the National War College, describes how the first Iraqi unit the marines encountered surrendered four days earlier than reported and that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Richard Myers "gave bad or deliberately incomplete info on several topics." Says Gardiner, "Never before have so many stories been created to sell a war."

stupid white men is fuckin ace.

has anyone seen roger and me? the bit with the cat skinning woman is fucking hilarious (although not for the cats)! it made me think of real life 'gummo'. true red necks.

'bowling...' made me extremely pissed off and sad. in '97 scotland was host to the dunblane massacre, immediately after which handguns were banned in the uk.

the power of hollywood is clearly shown in 'bowling' with that fucking cunt charlton heston. total ignorance, showing up in colorado to host an nra rally about a WEEK LATER! motherfucker!

i really liked the marilyn manson interview as well, but i bet after seeing that film loads of the parents still think he's the devil...
