i have an exciter, for the right price its a good addition, brings more presence to mid range and highs, but we mainly use it when we play live as it give unwanted artifacts when recording, because I think it distorts to much of the mids and highs and it rounds the bass to much, if that makes any sense. I mean it boosts the bass but you loose some clrity in the punchyness or the bass and kicks. i would say go for an eq instead.
