The Fez on Lafayette Street usually has some good music on most nights (especially Friday/Saturday). Sort of jazz/lounge style stuff - very classy indeed.

If your brother sees David Poe there, since he plays fairly regularly unless he's on tour, ask him to say hello from me.

yeah...i can offer some help. is he here now? or coming later?

there are loads of good nights coming up soon - T. Ramschmire, Electric Six, Kid 606, Warp night with Plaid, UNKLE, etc.

As far as places to check out...here ya go...

record shops
- sonic groove, other music, halcyon (in brooklyn...has djs and a coffee shop/bar in it)

clubs/nights
- filter 14 has a great system and throws good nights (ranging from drag shows to techno nights)
- tronic treatment gets all the big names in techno in and is only $5 every monday, the tronic people also do a small night at a bar called drinkland on wednesdays that's really cozy and nice
- APT gets in good acts nearly every week. Metro Area have a weekly residency there. They have a free night with DJ Hell, Afrika Bambaattaa, and Grand Wizard Theodore soon, and i've seen herbert and carl craig there. its the worst venue though - just badly laid out, so you spend most of your night getting out of people's way.

the truth be told though, night clubs aren't nyc strong point. it's really a bar town. tell him to check out the ones over in the east village.

other cool places to go...

ps1 - contemporary art gallery in queens. they throw parties in the summer and brought out dj traxx, mad professor, and others.

de la guarda - wicked theater show/circus where people fly over you in harnesses. they pick people up from the audience, you get soaked. when i went, derrick may was spinning, and it morphed into one of the best parties i'd ever been to.

i dunno...that's a start. there is a message board about the new york music scene at www.naughtybooth.com. i have just started lurking there, so i don't know if its any good.

anyhow, i hope that helps. :)

i think hes gettiing a place sorted out in the east side though..so that should be cool..

cheers again karitek :)
