if it just was that easy. i think it is very important to know where music comes from and who did it. no need to know insignificant details about the artists daily life, but an idea about if the artist is aware of his/her work´s position (in history of music, in politic implications, in originality...). to know where music comes from or who did it in my eyes is no prejuicio. al contrario: it shows interest and openess. the connection of "our" music market and politics is much closer than many consumers do recognize as long as they have access to almost anything they want. when i was in new york in 1999 i recognized that in shops like satellite or sonic groove people almost only bought us-records because of huge price-differences to european products and this was surely not the fault of the shops, but of u.s. tax-policies. now what about that universal language? unfortunately it´s a utopia.
