good choices for techno!
but if you are in the market for some fresh hip hop:
el-p from company flo owns his own label called def jux. they have 2 compilations out
(def jux presents) with different artist on them. but 2 albums I can suggest is cannibal-ox: the cold vein, and aesop rock: labor days. both albums are amazing. strong beats and excellent lyrics, more so on aesops end. his stuff is real intelligent.

except from those artists kind of related to all this here i dig these at the moment:

-super furry animals "rings around the world" (best pop record ever!)
-fort lauderdale "1001 revolutions" (already a few years old but still a rocker - hope they release more soon)
-lots of stuff on fat cat - simply a great label
-isan "lucky cat"
-lots of stuff by the remote viewer
-louie austen (only have his first lp but i also liked the video for his new single)
-hell of a lot more that i can't remember right now but will in about 30 minutes - dough!

Hrvatski is a really talented guy, and he'll be releasing a record on the label in the future (hard to tell how near or far, hopefully by the end of the year)

I am glad you dug cannibal-ox. that cd has been in heavy rotation with me for months.
if you like the sound of the album check out the instrumental version. they just released it recently and all it is is the beats. but like I said my main man now is aesop rock. he proves that white boys CAN flow. check it out! cheers.

about MMM - who are these Erik + Fiedel guys?

alex cortex
8th May 2002, 14:22
as far as i know are erik and fiedel from berlin. one of them told me, the blue mmm (donna etc) was manufactured years before it became a huge clubhit. only after väth played it in his clubnight it sold at all (what says all about acceptance of left-field tendencies in techno). both mmm are great. strange and timeless techno. the same guys do soundhack and errorsmith and there joined project smith´n´hack.

about MMM and soundhack etc. ...

MMM is Erik and Fiedel

Soundhack is Frank Timm [NOT erik and fiedel] they're 'only' mates and fiedel did the soundhack 'artwork'...

Soundstream is Frank Timm again

Errorsmith is Erik

Smith'n'Hack is errorSMITH [erik] and soundHACK [frank]

the 1st MMM was released in '98 i think and mr. vaeth 'found' the record 1,5 year later...

i used to work in hard wax and we had to put up everytime with the confusion about who did what etc.
now you know :)

i just bought a new record from a label based in Hove - Atomic Recordings::The artist was called Black Lung and the texture is very strange. Fast tempo with noises like leakage in the tears of the space time continum. I love it so hard, my only Problem with it being finding the right trak to introduce it to... :)

There is a French label named expressillon which I am liking right now...

Also heard a cut off of the Inbred EP, from Thunk Recordings (an Australian label) at a night way back in Noremember... err... November... It flipped my turtle at the time, it's really too bad they seem committed to calling this trance! :-p

well, at last a topic for me... am absolutely fanatic about drexciya and all related projects. maybe the only music i really collect besides everything done by maurizio. i never heard a track of drexciya and co that was only mediocre or even worse.
whatever any interview says about who drexciya and co are, the sound of all these is of a unique aesthetic, so i guess it´s mainly one person or group. fake names or not, that´s not too important. a lot of people on that thread don´t seem to like the newer stuff. well i do but it took me longer than with the old stuff, so maybe give it another try... (could you who don´t like it explain why? i´m always interested in peoples access to music). the longer i listen the more i find, mainly hints for and relations to seventies funk and soul combined with an appalling knowledge about frequencies in general and bass in particular. guess you´re right emma - listen loud.
to all those speaking german: thomas meineckes book "hellblau" gives interisting opinions on drexciya and underground resistance.

as far as I know, drexciya is james stinson and gerald donald.

other projects:

electroids (j.stinson & g.donald)
dopplereffekt, zyklus b, heinrich müller (g.donald & william scott)
japanese telekom (g.donald + ???)
the other people place (j.stinson & g. donald???)
transllusion (j.stinson only)
ectomorph (g.donald + ???)

however there are still thousands of rumours out there, so better don't trust in me! :D

there will be an interview with j.stinson on www.tresorberlin.de very soon...

i don´t think ectomorph (brendan gillen) is the same person as dopplereffect or drexciya. somehow different sound aesthetic and drive. here is an 1997 interview with ectomorph: http://www.forcefield.org/ectomorph.html
i´ll add another reply with a discography of drexciya et al. i didn´t include dopplereffect, der zyklus, heinrich müller or japanese telecom (this is maybe a personal thing, but i don´t consider these projects as good as drexciya etc., i guess g.donald needs this mysterious other person to get even deeper (whereas the other people place i guess is this other person solo, i.e. it sounds like it...). furthermore i didn´t include appearances on compilations with tracks that were released before (like midnight drive on x-mix). my list is still not finished, hints or corrections are welcome.

to wheezer: here are 2 notices from the submerge board:

1)
We said that will be a Drexciyan release on Virgin called Arpanet 'Wireless Internet'. With Drexciyan we are refering to an artist who has or used to have a connection to the Drexciya project.
2)
Just checking Juno out and what do I see...
Arpanet - NTT DoCoMo 12" on Source France. If memory serves, Source is a Virgin sub label.
Sounds good from the 40 second snippet I heard - Vocoder Electro :)

alex speaking: anyone knows that record?

hmm, that dimensional waves side kept me thinking. ultradyne isn´t mentioned. this here is what i found in several interviews with ultradyne (or alex lugo and dennis richardson):

1)
- There are rumours you are related to Dopplereffekt and Drexciya, are these just rumours?
U: Hmmm.. What do you think?

2)
WTN: How did you hook up with Warp ?
Ultradyne: With the aid from a couple of members of Drexciya.

3)
WTN: You've often been confused with electro outfits Drexciya and Dopplereffekt, though there is an obvious relationship between you all through your music. Do you want to put the record straight? What is the relationship between you guys? Is it true that Drexcyia have disbanded due to personal differences?
Ultradyne: We are all apart of the same element, a part of the same movement so to say. Drexciya is still very much alive.

electro is cool...but why do usually all people dissappear from the dancefloor when you play it...is it the lack of some kickdrums or the explosion efx...vocoder?

it's crazy how many people stop dancing or leaving the floor when i_lectro is played.guess they all just wanna hear a phat banging bassdrum (as hard as the bassdrum can be)....imo there could be played a bit more electro in the clubs.

there were lots of cool computergames in the eighties ( C 64 rocks ).
but anyhow i can't remember any names....even i had more than 500 games at least.........aaahhhh..anybody seen my.....

Check out www.electroempire.com for some storming oldschool electro mixes.

Don't forget Defender (ideally the tabletop version), Daley Thompson Decathalon (ooh, sore forefingers and battered keyboards), and best of all Battlezone.

decathlon.??? i dont know, how much joysticks i´ve destroyd for this game. Barbarian was one of my favorites. Remember the little green guy who kicks the head of the loser...................

jukka
12th May 2002, 14:59
i am wondering how many joysticks this game destroyed at all ??!!
after lots of broken joysticks my brother faked a joystick, so i had just to press a button (and keep pressed) to let the little man start moving.
babarian was great.....or summer olympia...california games...world games etc.
anyone knows/remembers the game "little computer people" ???

has anyone ever played P.O.W and finished all levels? PHOENIX?

i´m still adicted to gameboy TETRIS!

jukka
12th May 2002, 16:25

yeah! the realtime shipping sequence from place to place was a good rest to fix the bong! inhaling, sailing ah...night is over?

pow was fun and the monkeys where shot frequently! very interlectual game that one!

elite was some sort of space-trading game where you could do buisiness with planets far off...the landing sequence was cool fun! nice species-description there too!

just remembered playing some silly game where you had to make burgers in hi-speed...my little sister was champion with that...can´t recall the name?

it seemed strange to me too, that's why I remembered =) I just heard a sample in an online store, never actually got my hands on the record, but the one track did at least sound quite drexciyan... I'd think someone on this board should/might know this ... HELP! lol

alex cortex
15th May 2002, 11:11
@wheezer: you´re sure the record wasn´t just compared to the artist "fix" (orlando voorn). his sound has sometimes slight approach to drexciya. with several search engines i couldn´t find any document bringing drexciya and the label fix into one context.
