Is it a good alternative to the Nord Modular ?
I plan to buy one of these two and as I saw the prices I think I'll put my choice on the Micro one, any advices ?

the synth and the concept rocks definitely. go for the real nord modular if you have the money, because the micro modular has a big disadvantage: each module you use in a patch needs xxx% of the synth's internal dsp power. however, the number of available voices also depends on the dsp power, so if you have a patch using 50% dsp power, you will only get 2 voices out of the synth.

btw, the micro modular is worth every single cent, but unfortunately there isn't any way to upgrade.

i had the same debate, but i figure this:

for twice the price of the micro modular, you get four times the power. or, for half the price of the nord modular, you get 1/4 of the power the nord modular. i would say get the nord modular rack because the keyboard isn't worth that much more. for the difference you can either get the DSP expansion board or a 61 key keyboard for extra sounds and controller functions. just my logic, at least.

JUST GET THE RACK I HAVE HAD IT FOR A YEAR AND YOU CAN ALWAYS GET SOMETHING NEW OUT OF IT....

look at thomann.de for good prices, well at least when I bought mine, im in the uk and their prices were the best in europe at the time.

and no im not a salesperson for them its just not a lot of people know about them and they saved me tons of money setting up my studio.

i don't think thomann are cheapest any more...i was thinking about replacing my micro with a full kb for the multi-timbral-ness and digital village was the cheapest i could find about a month ago...surprisingly...

yeah you are right.... not at the moment, but the stuff like cables and audio cards are strangely cheaper.... it varies month to month at the moment.

i was looking at getting a new waldorf (im a big waldorf fan....) and the q rack sort of caughtmy eye but yeah digital village and the guitar, amp and keyboard centre.

get the rack I dont think it really makes much of a difference using a laptop and my kurzweil is the easiest way to program it. I dont really use the main unit much though as a result. set up the controls and then use logic to feck about with the rest of it....

oh I just got platinum 5 so I cant wait to play with that.

aye the only reason i wanted the kb is my master kb is the biggest heap of crap, even just for something to prod while you're programming, plus its too big... the velocity is useless, it only seems to have about 3 levels

One of the best things I've found about owing a Nord Mod is the community .. The mailing list is one of the best I've ever belonged too.

Lots of patches and other useful info from people who really know there stuff.

You can find it @ http://www.topica.com/lists/nord-modular/
