Me and some friends are going to drive from Chelmsford UK to Spain in a convoy of cars down to past Barcalona. Its going to be really good. Reason im sharing this with you is to get any tips etc about doing something like this, you know pre-cautions. any help would help. anyone else got a decent holiday planned?

We thought driving would be all the more fun, stopping off in little villages, not having to hire a car. it would be sooo funny!!
dont u think? flying is crap. im not doing that.

make sure you take lots of music, preferably an i-pod with a converter to use it in the car
if you're driving through france dont forget the cash for the toll roads
appoint sensible people only to do the driving and dont fall asleep at the wheel
dont be lippy with ANY police in spain or france
if they do have a go at you pretend you cant speak the language and they will probably let you go in disgust
be careful with drugs at borders (seems obvious but collider had some weed trouble at customs once on a tour, due to a dodgy tour manager, and were almost strip searched)
take a photocopy of your passport and keep it separate from your actual passport if its lost or stolen this can be really helpful.
always remember the sunscreen and the water
and to phone your mum

Don't forget your union jack "brits on the piss" t-shirts either ...
Check your tyre pressure, and erm fill up your washer bottle cos your windscreen will get all dusty.
And don't leave the iron on back home .....

you might find the novelty wears off when you have to drive back as well as there.

Phil are you goin with a lass? if so book a table at the Four Cats in Barcelona where Picasso had his first exhibition, it's cheap, the food and service is amazing and if you book you could get a seat on the balcony of a circular back room with a pianist and Opera singer in it. You'll be in credit with the lady for weeks...............

me and my girlfriend went to Figueras, and stayed at Estartit. i love that coast line, there was this one bit of road that had no barrier and a sheer drop down a cliff, it went on for miles. i was so scared.
Im going with a load of mates about 8 of us..

how many cars? for 8 people i'd recommend at least one car.
mr.lizard
24th June 2003, 14:13
i know estartit
carry on down that coast and stay in calella de palafrugell or llafranc. byootiful little places.
driving is fun - i've done it couple of times, but yeah, as someone says, the novelty will wear off. alot of the way down through france won't be very spectacular. not wishing to piss on yer holiday, phil, since you are all nice and everything these days.

if you take any kind of bank-/ creditcard with you make sure you got the phonenumber for locking them up in case you loose them or they get stolen.
maybe a medical treatment voucher for foreign countrys wouldn't be bad in case you get sick (may god prevent!).
last not least a second pair of panties never is a bad idea.
phil

take your nan's phone number so she can rescue you if you get in trouble with the "locals".
thanks for bringing the dolphin back.
don't forget to get your E111 form from the post office in case you have a horiffic car accident and you and your friends are torn limb from limb in the burning wreckage of your vehicles, then get hit by an oncoming truck, which swerves across the central reservation and slams headlong into an oncoming MPV containing a family on a day out, with sandwiches in the boot, snuffing them out like a light that's been put through a mincing machine. or maybe you might twist your ankle, docs cost lots.
also take boxing gloves for when you and your mates get into massive arguments with eachother.

stay in your vehicle on the french motorways because i hear that your life expectancy is reduced by 50% if you stray from your car.
