hello everyone,
i'm sure you all know about all the shit that's been going on here in israel..and the senseless actions of israeli military and government who are only making things worse..for everyone..
a small group of people came up with the idea of having a rave against the occupation, against the governments actions. this group is getting bigger and bigger and we hope we can get enough people to come.
here you can find our manifest and the link to the website.
right now the website is only in hebrew but the english and arabic pages should be up within a day or 2.
you can post your opinions on the website if you like..
we're trying to do our best to stop this catastrophy before it's too late...

RAVE AGAINST THE OCCUPATION

In a country united by old-fashioned ideals mixed with panic, a new generation has grown. This generation, uninvolved in politics and seemingly preoccupied only with parties and individual goals is, in effect, showing a clear contempt towards those ideals that have always lead to constant violence – the familiar violence that presides everywhere in Israeli life – from politics and on to the streets. Hundreds of thousands of young people in this country aspire to one single thing, although without a clear voice until this day. Its essence is simple – Normality

Indeed, our generation hasn't been visible in left wing demonstrations. This generation is not eager to demonstrate, but instead yearns to live. A silent cry for normality is expressed by many young people on the dance floors each weekend – hanging on to the belief that it is their right to lead their lives just like any other young people around the world. That in a country that impossibly mixes western democracy with the oppression of the minorities that live within it, and a brutal occupation of the neighbouring nation.

We are told it is either us or them. They say this is a war for our prevailance, and order us to toe the lines, seccumb to panic and agree to murder. That is why we as civilians are proud to refuse an order. We refuse to believe that the continious oppression of the Israeli Arabs contributes to our culture and existence here. We do not understand why a handful of extremist settlers should dictate our lives. We say to the prime minister that tells us its either us or them: "Arik, its either us or you". We will not stand silent while you lead us to war again – a stupid and cruel one that will result in the exact same state of constant violence.

We would probably not carry out this rave unless the situation was truly alarming. But in these days, when the stench of war is creeping from all sides, smothering us and devouring our neighbours, we are left with no choice but to make use of our natural and authentic tool of protest: rave against the occupation.

We participate in this rave not for the sake of enjoying music and dancing: we intend to vote with our legs and say that we can no longer bear the distortion of basic human values. We say that this war is not ours. We say that in order to achieve that dream of normality, of a state that provides its citizens a life worth living – we must do now what should have been done ages ago: get the hell out of the occupied territories.

Dear Ladybug,

I'm really pleased someone mentioned the current Israel/Palestine situation. its been keeping me up all night and shouting at the TV . I watched a really interesting programme last week where this guy form the PLO said ' we are the jews of the jews - if the jewish people have learnt anything from Hitler its how to persecute other people'. There was an english, middle aged jewish woman in the audience who agreed with him (this shocked everyone) and said she felt ashamed to be jewish for the first time in her life
.This struck a powerful cord with me.
Especially as I read Daniel Deronda by George Eliot a month or so ago. It makes me feel sad that such a traditionally gentle and intelligent people have taken such a militaristic, tyrannical and actually stupid path if they think they can stop suicide bombers in this way. Seems to me the rate of suicide bombers has increased with each day of Israeli force.
It is important that people who live in Isreal shout their objections to their governments force, loudly. Its in everyone's interest to shout/dance loudly (israeli's & palestinians)

Best of luck with the rave!!!!l

It struck me the other day that the violent lunacy of large sections of the Israeli government (and people) is something like the person who is abused as a child who grows up with a permanently warped sense of power dynamics and goes on to abuse other children...

It is so good to have some contact from the sane element in Israel: you have all our support.

Check this article out: http://www.ctheory.net/text_file.asp?pick=335 - arguing that Peres and the Labor party need to make their position explictly pro-peace as one of the only chances to stop the killing, now that Sharon appears to be hopelessly committed to the hardline position.

good to hear that there are at least some people down there who use their heads (and legs) for thinking and not for carrying their helmets around only. wish you all the best! spread the word, show them that this kind of hardline-policy doesn't make any good (except for the weapon-dealers maybe).

just to get that right, is this rave for jewish people only or do palestinians also participate? do they have a chance to cross the borders to join it at all? i hope so! this region needs more people like you, no matter what skin or religion!
