I am planning a mammouth party in aid of UNICEF's End Child Exploitation campaign. I was inspired to do this when I saw the film Lilya 4-Ever, a dastardly tale of child prostitution if ever there was one. On the films publicity flyer was a load of bumpf about this campaign, so I've managed to drum up a whole shedload of UNICEF backing and sponsorship to do this gig. The event will take place at The Ocean in Hackney some time in October hopefully, and the planned line up is
Squarepusher (live)
Si Begg (live)
Edit (live)
Jerome Hill (Of Don't notoriety)
Frank ONE
and myself the Chuckie Thrux
There's just the one sketch: Anyone know how I can contact The One Like the Squarepusher? Si Begg's avin none of it so far - i left him a message on this very site and I've a hearda nothing. I'll just keep pestering the blighter though!
@thrux... it seems a bit off to list people you havent even asked to play, yet... you should contact these people properly.
you dont know if they are already booked on your date.
@phil... if you`re a mate of squarepushers, just ask him...it is for charity

Yeah, that's why I've clearly stated that it's planned and not official. these are the people I want to play, certainly not the people I've booked. I in no way intended to upset anyone, I just thought this place was a good starting point...

we didnt realise you were so cool, if we`d known i`m sure we wouldn`t have said anything.

Sounds like a very good idea to me. Good luck putting it on.
In regards to booking Si Begg and Squarepusher, they are both very busy artists so you probably have to book them through an agency or something. I'll pm you some contact details that might be useful.

why don't you try emailing si? you can do that by clicking here. (http://www.no-future.com/vbulletin/member.php?s=&action=mailform&userid=368). and i think his booking agency is Cocoon (http://www.cocoon.net )
and warp's booking people can be reached at LIVE@WARPRECORDS.COM which would be the place to start with reaching Sqaurepusher.
and phil is right, you'd probably be best off putting together some type of press packet or info about you, what you have put on, UNICEF and how they are backing it. also, you probably should pick a date. both these things will make you look a lot more professional and orgainized, increasing your chances of getting help.

thrux - everyone here is right. it makes sense to do things in the proper way...protocol is a good word.
si begg is a very decent sort and im sure would be interested in doing your night if he can.
but...people like si and tom get loads of requests to do stuff and in order to make the decision to do it they need lots of information and to see that you know what you are doing.
this isnt being 'pop star' in anyway - if you ask people to give up their time it makes sense to present a good case to them for doing so. just saying 'its for Unicef' isnt going to work.
posting a message for si here isnt a good way of getting in touch with him as he is only an occasional visitor.
email him directly, karitek has given you the info. and phil is right, contact warp to work with Tom.
good luck.

yeh my mate who went said there were bad problems up on stage during his set. he also said everything except squarepusher was rubbish.
so why would that not make him play ocean again?

the sound in the venue was abysmal. quite baffling how a venue for music can have sound problems as bad as that, but there you go.
it was pure murky mulchy nothingy noise. And it made squarepusher sound rubbish, although who's to say whether he was or not. He seemed flabbergasted on stage, and kept apologising over the mic. Some geeks lapped it all up anyway, but had i paid to go to that i would have been extremely disappointed.
the night was redeemed for me when MJ cole bumped into me with his record bag and i took the piss out of him: "oooh look at you with yer record bag...etc". I was quite drunk, and didn't realise it was him til after. the big ponce.

that must be the most fustrating thing for the artist. has anyone been the ocean before - have they experienced sound problems like this or was it some night that the sound engineer decided to take off? (this happenned to us at an uglyfunk once - what a nightmare!)

And if all that isn't enough I just heard today from a reliable acquaintance that the bouncers at The Ocean are not only extremely over the top in their searches, they actually turn punters over to the police if they find anything. I reckon I'm gonna have a serious rethink on the whole ocean idea. Anyone been to The Coronet in Elephant & Castle?

Yeah thrux, I went to the coronet once, to see "sleepless in seattle" - what an amazing film - didn`t see any bouncers and i only paid a fiver to get in! only one drawback- NO ALCHOHOL....... loads of popcorn though !
