I am considering buying a laptop and I was wondering what would be a good laptop to buy to use logic 4.7 with. Around $2000 would be a good price

get a macintosh.....when i got mine none of my friends thought it was worth the exrta cash over a pc...... but i've since then i've watched them all have major:D disastors losing songfiles etc. i also think they're better at multi-tasking plus osx is supposed to be really stable. I not sure if the new ibook has an audio-in port but that wuold be about your price-range, if not try to find a G3 powerbook (or buy an USB input box?).....

that says it all doesnt it? please don't give any advice if you don't know what you're talking about or if you've "heard" it works well.
as a matter of fact, no serious sequencer (except ableton's live) and no decent sound hardware (except m-audio's) will run on osx yet. on the other hand, they all support windowsxp. i am also in the market for buying a laptop, am now a win logic user and will most likely stay on that side as there are many laptops (including sony's new 316 ones) that work very well with these apps. plus you have to pay emagic money to get a crossgrade but that might be a minor concern.

in my experience X is very stable. i have been using it on a day to day basis for about 3 months now and have not had one single crash/mis-wake-up or other sign of misbehaviour from the os. but, having said that i do have to reboot into OS 9 every day so it hasn't been up and running for a month solid yet.
but yeah none of the software except live has arrived yet...soon i hope...
content: i'm fairly sure my copy of logic is on a dual platform cd with usb dongle so i can install it on pc or mac...don't know about yours though...

Well, you do need a separate Logic version for the other platform.... this is annoying and costs half the price of the original program (in Germany at least), so it is quite dear.
The CD might be dual (I don't think my Logic 5 is dual though) but the XS key is not....

Noting your comments Content:
Ive only ever used an oldish toshiba 650 mhz laptop running win me:
its very stable, and Ive never lost a song file (more stable than win 98)
It runs Ableton Live! fine
I run with 192mb memory its only just quite enough..for making waves studio which is processor and memory hungry to use "live" with big audio files, very little midi..
I have no experience of Macs for music so I cant comment...

You should seriously consider the new Sony 316 with 16" screen... I've heard only great things about it, and, as a matter of fact, one of the Ableton guys confided to me that they had tested Sonys with very good results.... it's about 2500 Euro though.

from what i know, if you want a pc laptop go for the IBM machines.
in my old work we used toshiba and ibm. toshiba were small bastrads, who looked very good, but dude they were a bundle of problems. ibms did the work like mean ass machines.
if i had the money i would buy a mac.
