I wish I could say that I've seen all of the above - I only recently saw The Birds, and it actually sent chills through me....
I've seen Psycho more times than I care to remember, but I still enjoy it -
Maybe this is an excuse for me to hit the Blockbuster, or even better, just buy some good movies....

i'm currently re-watching the birds (in small portions once i have time) and i really like it. i was planning to gather some hitchcock movies from the web although i might have tapes somewhere. i haven't seen them in a long time, but i liked psycho, rear window, north by northwest and vertigo even the first time i saw them.

this is going to sound pretty fucked up since I consider myself to be a big fan of movies...but I have never seen an alfred hitchcock movie from beginning to end.

All the one you name are good Lou. I'm really into "The 39 Steps", that movie has perfect pacing. I think it's a really underrated Hitchcock - maybe because it was made before he went across the water?

yes i thought the man who wasnt there was spectacularly dull.
ive only seen vertigo and rear window...need an education
cristian played with oskar salla (spelling?) who did the music to 'the birds' at the goethe insitute in london a few years ago - it was brilliant. he did a 15 minute piece of music with pablo accompanying film. oskar was amazing, what instrument did he play...it was one he had invented and smuggled out of nazi germany etc

I liked the man who wasnt there , although it can't have been that impressive as I can remember a thing that happened. Hitchcock - I love the cheesy ones like 'north by northwest' and 'the birds' - also 'the rope' is really good - from a play I think. 'Rear window' as well and 'psycho' - quite interested to see the banned one - although again my mind seems to have deleted the name...

emma -
Every morning Oskar Sala, born in 1910, walks to his small studio in Charlottenburg, Berlin where he composes. Here exists the only functioning Mixturtrautonium in the whole world, securely protected by an alarm system. At the beginning of the 1930s Sala made it his task to master and develop this unique instrument.
Its a long way from being a young pianist, who is forced to watch his teacher, Paul Hindemith, being condemned and banished by the Nazis, to being a celebrated film composer for Hitchcocks "The Birds".

Nope, that was Rope.
Rear Window, if you can recall, had several shots looking out the windows at the elaborate view of different apartments outside. However, you were on the right track as every shot except one, I think, originates from inside of the apartment. Rad, rad, rad movie.

Cool. thanks for the clarification cris and jess. now I know which movie to check out this weekend. think I will make it a hitchcock featurette.
when i last watched the birds 10+ yrs ago i didn't pay much attention to the synth sounds or even to the fact that it were synth sounds not real bird recordings - now i finished watching it and i'm really impressed since the sounds are really quite weird, even today with plenty of experimental artists available.

@cristian - rope isn't really in one take, its nigh on impossible to do that - it uses that old chestnut of tracking past someones back and the cut is then barely noticable.

That is much the same for me, bar the man who new to much. I will replace that with Psycho. Cliched, I know, but it is the best bit of transvestite butchery you will get from the time.

Honestly I like all of them, especially the ones with Peter Lorre, 39 steps, the secret agent. I saw Strangers on a train last night and that was great.
Dial M For murder is really good as well. Wow Grace Kelly was a babe. Oh and Jamiaca Inn, anyone seen this?
