Just heard a cracking track by Markus Nikolai on this sampler cd and its on the Perlon label, which I've heard about from different peepz.
Anyone any recommendations and the next question is, can you get it on cd ???

i have almost every perlon record. it is my absolute favourite label.
i imagine all the albums are available on cd
pantytec pony slaystation lp
akufen quebec nightclub lp (much much better than his 'my way' lp that got overblown press coverage)
superlongevity 1 + 2 (the compilations)
markus nikolai lp (isn't that great actually)

actually i've been thinking for a while of doing an all-perlon mix of my own, if i ever get round to it i'll stick it on the ftp and you can make yer own cd with it!

Nice one, had this suspicious idea that there's only been 12 records out on Perlon, available on pink and blue 7 inch vinyl only and you can only buy them on a leap year or summat.... tends to be the way with all this technoid bizness.
I'll check out Akufen's first album, his second one got right on my tits after a while and I hardly ever play it. And I've heard some Pantytec stuff (one on a Herbert mix I think) and I like that too.
But if you ever get round to doing a mix that'll be ace !
Muchos gracias Senors...

actually i think the akufen might be a double ep, which might mean it isn't available on cd. but i bet you a tenner they re-release it at some point to cash in on all the hype...

If there's hype and a bandwagon to jump on, then you'll find me sat in the front seat :-)

Perlon is definitely one of the cooler labels around. One of the few non-NF-type labels that I still find worth checking out.

from this genre i only have Akufen "My Way" and 2 Farben records but I like what i heard from Perlon too. i have quite a lot of stuff that i downloaded from slsk but for me this stuff is not what i want to buy at the moment. i have yet to hear it played in clubs in a way that makes it very interesting. the only person i heard that impressed me very much was Jeff Milligan who is also from Canada like Akufen. he plays very well keeping it busy on 3 decks which is good as the music can drag if not played with much zest.
i saw Jan Jelinek once but his laptop blue screened half way into his performance and i went home after too much beer.
also worth checking is Portable on the Sud label. he is from South Africa but lives in London and they sometimes do small parties. his live sets are very deep.
for people who like the more housy end of the laptop/clicky stuff you should watch out for an Irish producer called t-pole who makes very nice stuff something like a mix of Farben, Herbert and Moodymann.
i hear they have a good party scene in koln based around this type of music but as i said i've yet to hear djs rock the house with it.

1. you ain't heard me and robbie, we get super busy and fly with the crossfader, always monkeying. (i'm trying to learn the lack of modesty which i believe dj's who actually get gigs sport) we are both also techno djs who play this so-called microhouse (i hate that term) in an aggressive techno style.
2. dj twitch does very much the same sort of thing (tho a bit better, i'll admit) at his 'black rabbit whorehouse' night at the sub club in glasgow. believe me, these nights rock.

re: "My Way" - it is not all great. when i first heard it there were several trax that had that "wow" effect like i never heard stuff like it before. since then it is those very tracks that i grew quickly out of and now prefer the less inyaface trax on the lp...the deeper more atmospheric tunes are the ones to look out for.
i also have his "Psychometry vol3" on Trapez which is good.
1 thing that annoys me about his productions though is that his sounds are so processed and compressed that the records sound toooo loud...when you bring the record in even low in the mix it dominates the mix too much. maybe i just don't know how to play this music yet.

hmm - i know wot you mean about my way. i never really rated 'deck the house ' (big single from that lp). however, when you hear it over a really good system, mixed into other tunes, it absolutely rocks - like daft punk on crack.
and you need to learn to use the gain knobs on your mixer mate :)

thanks, but i'm talking about something the name of which i don't remember...i can have two records both with the gain meters at the same level, yet the Akufen will sound much louder once both tracks are in the mix because of the highly processed nature of the production. of course this can be gotten around once familiarity sets in, but the first few times playing it can be rather confusing and irritating. i'm over it now, really.

yeah i know what u are talkin about, akufen's tracks cut right through. supercrispy production. but that's wot i like about em..!

I think a lot of the guys from the montreal/quebec scene do it that way, like Algorithm with his 3 turntable sets for example...

yes, i mentioned Algorithm already. Actually, i didn't...i mentioned Jeff Milligan...who is aka Algorithm.
he plays pretty quick, he looks a bit like another well known dj called Jeff in the way he moves at the mixer. it looks a bit silly sometimes, you don't really need to go into convulsions in order to twist a bass pot...but he certainly gets the most of out the music for any dj i saw playing that genre.

Exactly, I do prefer the "unusual" My-Way-Tracks, too. Like the 2nd one, "Installation", that thing just grooves ;) Kinda.

and one thing i don't like about akufen......
he didn't clear his sampler on some trax. personally i think it's dull to use one and the same sound (sample) in different songs.
kinda lame... but that's just me.

his album is amazing at the first listen, but it will eventually want to make you throw up after a week... bit some of the herbert mixes are fuckin over the top..
