Dear friends,
I invite you to attend the marathon of mini-shows Wiels will organise on saturday as part of the BRXL BRAVO festival.
I will present the installation "1000 BEATS", and for this, I also would like you to participate in the project.
WHAT IS THE WORK ON DISPLAY
The installation, called 1000 BEATS, is built around the 7" vinyl record 'ONE BEAT' I produced in collaboration with Cristian Vogel and Grandpeople.
You might know this project from the NAK show last year when it was premiered.
These records all carry the same sound cut into the vinyl, a circular groove instead of a spiral one, limiting the sound to only about one second, looping endlessly.
The installation through which the sound gets played consists of a changing number of turntables, amplifiers, stereos, loudspeakers and dj-mixers, all of which are coming together for this show only, borrowed from enthousiasts and friends of the artist and the institute/museum/gallery where the work is being shown.
The total installation at a given place and time hence is a unique setup, closely linked to the constellation of visitors-become-participators. The sound coming from this audiovisual machine is also unique; in volume, pitch, number of sources, duration of the show.
HOW YOU CAN BE PART OF IT
You can be part of it by lending you sound equipment for the show: a turntable, fully functional, and the pieces needed to let the turntable be heard: this can be a stereo system that features a 'phono' input (usually to be found on the back of the sterao, a double cinch input), but it can also be a proper sound amplifier and a set of loudspeakers. DJ's, you could ofcourse bring your whole setup, with two turntables, a mixer, etc.
For this mini show, I think the 1000 BEATS idea would work great.
Instead of having to miss your turntable, stereo, aplifiers etc for 6 weeks or more, this show only lasts 30 minutes!
Because of the limited time and the great number of works one will be able to experience, I heavily suggest anyone who can add to my installation to come to Wiels on saturday.
Usually I pick up the gear and take it to the museum, but now I want you to do it. Not only transporting it to the place, but also installing it when my exhibition time starts (17:30).
You will then receive the ONE BEAT record, play it on your system, and so will everyone when their installation is set up, and when it's time you will break it down again.
This will propably be the shortest display of the work, and I would be extremely happy to see many people showing up and participate.
RETURN
In return, the ONE BEAT multiple, meticuously crafted on 500 copies with the great sounds of Cristian Vogel and the very sharp sleeve designed by Norwegian Grandpeople, that played on your system will stay with your system: you can take it home, like everybody else who ever took part in the exhibition. This series of 1000 BEATS shows will go on until all the vinyls have disseminated into the world.

MORE INFO
More info about the work can be found on my website: www.pieterjanginckels.be under WORK - 1000 BEATS or WORK - ONE BEAT. Text is to be found under TEXT in the menu.
The work was first on display at my solo show in NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein Aachen, Germany. Last year, it was also presented at the PLUTO-FESTIVAL in Nijdrop Opwijk (second edition this weekend!).
At this time, I have a version humming and turning and screaming at the KLERKX gallery in Milano, Italy.
PRACTICALITIES
If you want to participate, please CALL ME on xxxxxxx. It is important for me to know how many people will show up, and what you will bring.
This amongst others, to make sure there are enough power sockets supplied, but also, to know how much material will have to be stored safely before and after the mini-show.
Unless you keep it with you at all times.
If you have equipment but not the whole set from turntable to the loudpseakers - and everything else to go from input to output - try to find it, if it doesn't work, CALL ME as well, maybe we can work things out with other people.
The SHOW will be at WIELS, an international laboratory for the creation and the diffusion of contemporary art, located in Brussels at the Van Volxemlaan 354.
Wiels has a parking lot in the back but is also easily accessible with public transport.
The show starts at 17:30, ends at 18:00. Please be sure to be there soon enough to prepare installation (may take only about 5 minutes). It would be good for me as well to see who finally shows up, and what you bring.
THANK YOU
Thank you, dankjewel, merci :-)
